WTB 1st Edition base set PSA 10 Ivysaur and Wartortle UPDATE

Ivysaur - looking to pay around $650-700 depending on card.

Wartortle - looking to pay around 1.5K.

Also while we are here, 1.8K for a PSA 9 Mewtwo 1st edition

Your offers for the Ivysaur and Mewtwo look good.

But your offer for the Wartortle looks outdated based on more recent sales.

2 days ago, one sold for $2,300. ( LINK )

I’m not sure to what extent this represents a new level, as the previous sale that occurred a few weeks earlier went for $1,300. But if you want to realistically have a chance of getting someone to sell you one here you will likely need to increase your offer for it.

well… I’ll painfully update that price then. Thanks man

This is what is wrong with eBay. Could it have sold for $2400? Yeah I mean I guess, but probably not considering what the previous sale was. If the seller responds to a message with an offer, eBay shows it sold as the list price, not what the seller offered.

Example: here is my shadowless PSA 9 Raichu - shows it sold for $799. It did not. It sold for $450. But eBay would have you believe it sold for $799.

Yeah this is a very good point. 1 data point needs to be taken with a grain of salt both because it’s just 1 data point and because not all the data points on eBay sold listings are accurate.

Having said that, I didn’t feel it was unreasonable to quote this particular data point, because I have confidence that this particular seller is indeed selling these cards and because price increases for the Wartortle make sense given what we’ve seen happening with Base Set as a whole.

But you’re right, it is always important to add these qualifers when quoting eBay sold listings. It’s not like quoting a reputable auction house sales price which is much more reliable.

Having said all of that, I do think @baccene 's increased offer of $1.5k is much more realistic at present time.

Also @jcincy101, can you help me understand the discrepancy between the sold price on eBay for the Raichu (which also shows up as $800 on flippertools) and the actual price that it sold for, $450?

Is there something that may cause flippertools to work sometimes but not other times, or is there another factor here? Trying to understand.

oh no… I depend on Flippertools… so it might not be grabbing the correct prices?

I’ve personally checked the Flippertools prices against sales that I’ve been directly involved in and in each one of these times the prices were accurate.

But it doesn’t surprise me to hear that the data isn’t 100% accurate, as there are strange mechanisms at work. I would think if there are going to be errors at all it’s most likely going to be for items that were listed with “Best Offers” but FlipperTools records the item as having sold for the full Buy It Now price. Back when I used WatchCount I recall seeing some instances in which a card sold for a “Best Offer” but the site WatchCount said the item sold for the full Buy It Now price.

Even with that said, I do believe based on what I’ve seen that the results are usually correct. (But use with caution nonetheless)

By the way, another thing to keep in mind with Flippertools is that it won’t tell you which currency their data is showing, so you have check the original listing to see what unit of currency is being used.

If flippertool’s price is lower than buy it now price you can assume it’s correct.

If it’s the same price as buy it now and had offers enabled I’d be a little more cautious in using that sales figure.

More succinct and to the point than my previous comment. I agree with this 100%.

I am pretty sure he means that if an offer is sent and accepted through Ebay’s messages (Send offer button top right of the message), flippertools will not work and will just show the original price of the item.

This is good information, would explain why flippertools occasionally only shows the original price of the item for something that was best offer accepted.

In any case, that would mean the last data point we have for Wartortle is $1,300 in early July. (flippertools shows a $1,300 accepted offer for a card that was listed at $2,000 with a best offer option)

Original Sale —> flippertoolsWe can tell from sold listings that the Wartortle that sold 2 days did indeed have a best offer option available, therefore it’s safe to say that the $2,300 price listed on flippertools (the full buy it now price) is inaccurate.

This is definitely something I will keep in mind going forward!

The 2300 copy was best offer accepted on eBay for 1,500.

You should be able to find one at 1.3 - 1.5 off eBay! Gl

Not sure why there’s so much concentration on closed listings and not on available item prices. If the cheapest available is 100.00 who cares if one sold last week for 90.00? Only the hobby busting low ballers;)

My understanding is if for example you had an item listed at $1000 and someone offered you $800 through the “make an offer button”, and you accept, the listing will have $1000 with a line through it and say “best offer was accepted”. Apparently though, if the buyer is the one who makes an offer to the seller through messages for that $800 and they accept, the listing ends but will not say “best offer accepted”, it will just look like it sold for $1000. Kinda weird and misleading that it works that way.

This is correct. Flippertools will only show the lower price if it was accepted by the seller after the buyer sent it through the listing. If the seller themselves offers the discount after a discussion in messages, it will not reflect that price. eBay doesn’t care to fix that part of the API because it allows them to show higher sold prices to prospective sellers

I am the buyer of the 1300 wartortle on eBay. And am Happy I paid that when I did.
The last one sold for 1500.
I am in the market for another and expect the next one to sell for more just because the pop is so low and so many people are building the set now.

Apparently it may not show up on eBay searches for a lot of people.
