Auctions have ending at ridiculously high prices recently. Just check out recently solds for Skyridge & Aquapolis… Even Shadowless Charizard slabs are absurdly high. Do you guys think prices will continue to rise even more than the last two months? Or that prices will even go down after this whole virus thing is over? I’m not sure if I should even be buying with these high prices lol. But I’m feeling FOMO if I don’t.
I don’t anticipate a major pull back or correction. Pokemon buyers are usually the patient kind. With all this product being bought, not much will hit the auction block. Ergo, supply will remain the same with maybe a slight, almost unnoticeable rise. The Wuhan flu was great for the Pokemon market.
I have discussed my personal thoughts on this in a few other topics, but will weigh in for you here as well. Keep in mind that my responses along with others are purely subjective as nobody can know for sure what will happen in the future.
Personally, I think prices will continue to increase as long as PSA remains closed and this lockdown remains in effect. With the increased free time as well as extra spending cash, people are entering/returning to the hobby to spend some extra money on cards to complete or begin their collections. However, once things normalize in the world, PSA opens back up and people no longer have the extra free time and money to invest in the hobby, things will stagnate just a bit and we may see a slight decrease in prices.
Having said this, I do not know when the prices will stop increasing and by no means am I saying the prices will tank back to their original values from months ago. Look back to the Pokémon GO times, as prices spiked across the board and remained high for a while before lowering a bit, then continued in their linear growth pattern as normal. I’m inclined to believe history will repeat itself in this case.
Overall, I’d say to check listings for the cards you want and compare prices to the sold listings under APR to see if you can find any reasonable deals. Best of luck in your hunt and welcome to the community!
There might be some drops for sure, some more than others but overall i really doubt you will see some cards with 30-70% reduction afterwards. The market was in need of several price corrections and this huge exposure to newcomers just accentuated that so in my opinion the 2x or 3x increase in prices for some cards are just right (not all of them of course).
I agree with @fresco Don’t skip buying because of prices unless you want to collect something different. If you want cheap prices collect modern. You can buy the same card for the same price for ages. If you like old cards just be thankful they are still available buy or don’t buy and move on. Sometimes a card goes out of budget. It’s ok if you can’t afford a base set 1st edition PSa 10 Zard. Buy a unlimited or whatever is affordable to you. If PSa price is too much buy ungraded. If ungraded is too much skip that set or card and move on. You can always go back later. Anyone just hoping and praying for a price drop is going to miss out on what they truly want and guess what the price drop might be to something higher than current rate etc. Just because a price goes down doesn’t mean it’s cheaper than today. Best time to buy is always yesterday or today. If you have to question these things long-term collecting might not be for you. So make these choices wisely and as long as you’re happy that’s all that matters Good luck with your collection just don’t sell yourself short.
I think after some time prices might go down on alot more stuff than go up, but I think they won’t go down much percentage wise. You will have people who bought and over extended themselves and will have to sell sooner than expected or want too.
He never recommended that. The media did. Read the transcript. Medical term for disinfectant includes UV light. UV light disinfects and it can be utilized inside the body.
If he doesn’t win, the economy won’t be booming anymore and people won’t have the money to blow on collectables.
Too many variables to really predict but long-term I see the franchise being very strong. Kids still like the franchise which is a good long-term bullish trend.
We have many other threads on the topic. Since this one is off the rails, we’ll lock it up, and end it with a nice picture of the top 10 most popular ebay entiertainment items for all ages:
