I hate getting psa 9’s with a bunch of holo easily visible holo scratches (that arent visible in the listing ofc)
really off centered cards getting 10 is the most distracting to me. with surface things its not always apparent unless you look up close. centering is the first thing that i notice
Damn thats crazy, im the complete opposite. I often forget to even check centering whilst submitting mint (semi) -vintage cards to PSA
Don’t care as much about holo scratches/print lines as most people do it appears. I think because in most cases they aren’t immediately recognizable unless you get really up close and tilt the card/move it around. Top of my list of things that bother me are more immediately noticeable.
corner dings
edgewear
silvering
front centering
holo scratches
print line
back centering
Hey Mertz!
Yo @codytcas ! I’ve been away from e4 for a little while, but @Coop13 tagged me in the discord the other day and it gave me the e4 itch again
I agree, i REALLY dislike bad centering. Funny enough, i never noticed it before, but once i saw it, i couldnt unsee it. Its like the pokemon card equivalent of “u didnt use a ruler to draw this,” to me.
Ive realized that im much more particular about certain things with my cards than PSA, which makes finding a copy im happy with significantly more difficult, for better, or for worse lol.
For sure, and like I said, some cards just can have inherently mediocre centering it seems almost no matter what. Guessing it has something to do with the sheet placement when they were printed and they almost universally come out with mediocre centering while others can be almost flawless. So some cards you almost have to live with it. If the card is only off-centred in 1 direction (i.e. top/bottom or right/left) it doesn’t bother me too much and I’ll look past it, I just think when it’s off both directions and shifted way off it can ruin the eye appeal for me.
Difficult to say for the rest but the worst for me is whitening on the edges/corners. It’s pretty much the first thing I look at. I think that says more about how the card was handled than anything else. Closely followed by holo scratching and lipped/bent corners.
I really don’t mind cards that are o/c, have surface scratching (especially on the back side), or have dents to a certain extent. They are all fairly minor to me - especially dents, given how badly grading companies look at them.
stadium cards are the worst tbh. even with perfect centering, the top border is so tiny. idk, it’s something about that good symmetry
From most to least bothersome damage for 9s or 10s:
- financial
- holo scratches
- edgewear
- print lines
- front centering
- silvering
- corner dings
- back centering
