Now where does Monster Rancher belong?
I loved Monster Rancher. I have an old hard drive full of anime and I have yet to finish monster rancher.
Digimon anime actually had a story and an ending lol. Pokemon was amazing at the start and I was extremely engrossed. And seeing the dumbf**k give up all his pokemon and has hopes to become the best that ever was. Also extreme and tedious amounts of filler. never seen an anime with so much filler. 0 career progression and constant rehash. Each series the dude magically starts from scratch again and the itās same fillers with differently designed pokemon. I could write a thesis on how much pokemon infuriates me as an anime. Unwatchable. Plain and simple. Digiimon anime is far better.
The game was also incredibly fun! You could take your other game disks and see if you got a new monster from it being scanned. I still have some of the old cards they gave out with the figurines. Canāt remember the story-line for shit though.
I love the cards and the games but Pokemon should have got rid of Jessie and James after the first season. Digimon anime is just more interesting and complex overall. This movie was hype:
Also if youāre not a fan of Digimon because of the games, Iād recommend checking out Digimon World Dawn & Dusk for the DS.
Digimon is miles ahead Pokemon when it comes to Anime. I think its the neveredning story and that every episode have the same structure in pokemon that makes Digimon the better show
I have memories of both, but I remember waking up wanting to watch Digimon the most. PokĆ©mon though seems to have had a bigger overall impact on me since I donāt do much in regards to Digimon anymore. But I do remember liking the movies that they both made.

Pokemon may have had us hooked on the anime, but we all know this movie was the greatest of all time! YES better than first movie.
My friend is always on about how Digimon is this great show and it destroys Pokemonās anime in every way. Digimon always looked stupid to me so I never watched it. But I can blindly say it must be, based on my friend and everyone hearāknowing how crappily written Pokemon is, between Ash and Ash, and⦠Ash. And then of course thereās Ash. The atmosphere of Pokemonās anime is great. Animation style, great. But Ashā¦
The writing is ass. The climax of season 1 is crap. It hurts. Even though you want to love it so bad because everything besides the writing is great. They should have made it more intelligent and universal for adults to enjoy, like most anime is. That, and arc and all the other devices that make for good screenwriting. I actually love Jesse and James⦠I just hate how they were used as time went on that made for a more superficial routine. But Pokemon kicks ass in every other category. TCG and gen 1 and 2 games? FAH GET ABOUT IT. UNTOUCHABLY GREAT.
Pokemon
I liked the PokƩmon anime alright, but I definitely preferred the Digimon anime. One of my favorite seasons was Digimon Frontiers.
Used to have a small digimon collection, wish I still did they were neat to see, never saw the anime show on digimon, but I enjoy the Pokemon movies/shows!
Saw this today and reminded me of this topic. The stakes really were high in Digimon.
I liked both anime as a kid but I always liked Pokemonās concept much more. I watched Digimon but never became a fan, meanwhile Iāve always been a Pokemon fan.
The problem that I always had with Digimon was that it seemed like a blatant rip-off of PokĆ©mon. They really tried to own the āmonā moniker by suffixing every one of their monsters with it. Not sure if thereās a backstory to it (i.e., a few guys who tasked with creating pokemon and 1 guy thought his idea was superior and tried to beat the others to market) - if there is, then Iād like to know about it. Otherwise, itās downright silly that somehow, within 1 year of PokĆ©monās release, digimon was released in Japan. Itās a hard sell for me to believe that it was an original idea thought of completely independent of what PokĆ©mon was doing.
8 year old me absolutely hated everything digimon and loved the pokemon anime. Digimon just seemed like an overly complicated pokemon rip-off and almost everyone at my school hated it as well.
I watched both as a kid and about 10 years ago rewatched Pokemon up until Johto Journeys and Digimon seasons 1-3.
It is close but have to say I preferred Digimon for the storyline. Pokemon feels more like each episode is stand-alone and seems more childish and repetitive which it made it harder for me to rewatch as an adult. I loved the Pokemon movies though, especially the legendary birds and celebi ones.
Pokemon cards and the games were way better than Digimon. I did like the game Digimon Rumble Arena but couldnāt make much sense of the Digimon Adventure games so didnāt play them much.
I also preferred the Dragonball Z, Yugioh and Beyblade tv shows to the Pokemon anime but overall Pokemon is the best franchise imo
I really enjoyed both. I definitely liked the Pokemon anime more just because it was Pokemon and that was my big obsession along with Yugioh. I think the Pokemon anime had more fun factor due to itās episodic narrative which allowed it to do more creative plots with the episodes that werenāt related to catching new Pokemon or collecting badges. I think the episode where Satoshi (Ash) ādiesā and plays with the Gastly, Haunter and Gengar trio or the island of giant Pokemon episode are good examples of this. As where Digimon had more cool factor to it. Instead of fighting for competition and sport the kids were fighting for their lives and the digital/real world. The villains were bigger and badder, the digivolutions of the partner digimon were badass (seriously, thereās a bipedal BUFF walrus with a giant turtle shell holding Thors hammer). The story line was also a lot more focused so I think that made me more excited to see the next episode. Overall, even though I watched the shows and played the games from both franchises, Pokemon always beat Digimon for me.
I rewatched S1+S2 of Digimon recently and despite it being almost 20 years later, I still found it enjoyable.
I canāt say the same about Pokemonās early seasons.
Pokemon, no contest. Those early seasons are magical in a way that I canāt quite pinpoint.
