Two observations.
- I can see why the poor guy went out of business;)
- This outcome is why I’m proud to call Nick a true friend.
Two observations.
This reminded me of a similar type story but one that worked in my favor. Scott saw all this when he visited so he’s the only one here who knows about it,
It’s complicated so I won’t go into detail but suffice it to say, I didn’t know I was scammed out of twenty thousand dollars. This was many years ago when twenty thousand dollars was TWENTY THOUSAND DOLLARS.
I had absolutely no idea this had happened and was shocked to see a 20,000.00 check in the envelope with the below letter,
Only chumps profit off of other people’s mistakes or ignorance. Honesty and integrity will set you up to be a very successful person in the future. I always feel bad when I win an auction for stupid cheap. One time I was bidding on a specific card that I was wanting to add to my collection and the seller had 4 other cards ending at the same time, each with a value of around $50. He had them listed poorly starting bid at 9.99 free shipping and there was only one other person bidding on them. So when I bid on the card I wanted I noticed that the other bidder had just put a max bid of $25 on each of the cards. I got mine for $25 and change and bid the other 4 up to $25. I guess at the end of the day it’s the sellers responsibility to do their research on what they are selling and list it properly but I hate taking advantage of people, especially if it’s something that I’m wanting for my personal collection.
I would have asked him “Are you sure?” I have insulted people, by showing them they were wrong. Once I was cussed out and lost the deal by saying “You’re shorting yourself.”
This thread pretty much epitomizes everything I love about the E4 community. We all live for the thrill of collecting (and certainly enjoy making some profit on occasion), but at the end of the day, the people that make up the hobby are more important. Reading all of your responses and suggestions makes me proud to be part of this community.
I would have double checked my math and said “wait a minute. I have this amount. Are you sure?” If he said yes, i take it. If he realized his mistake, he would bw greatful you were an honest person. And that feels good too.
It’s not what HE says or does that matters. It’s what YOU do,
