Vintage, is vintage, but some sets are a little more vintage than others, and when it comes to the basics, look no further than Base/Jungle/Fossil.
I have fond memories of classmates buying 10 Base Set boosterpacks, only to get mad because the best card they pulled was a holo Hitmonchan.
Obviously, the Charizard is the most iconic, but what´s your favourite? I have always had a soft spot for Fossil Golem. It just looks badass. Never understood why they didn´t make it a holo. It would have been really beautiful.
Probably Golem, but can’t really decide. Definitely Himeno is my favorite of the “og” illustrators. They look so dreamy, but still playful and charming. Arita has some bangers too besides the usual starters, dragonair and so on.. like Cubone (my choice) and Lickitung!
For the holo´s, swap Ditto and Hypno for Snorlax and Aerodactyl, and these would be my picks as well. Don´t know why, but as a kid, that Venomoth was always the real deal.
Venomoth is the Original Gangster. The holo was my first pull from Jungle in the winter of 1999/2000. Sugimori perfection on rolling green pastures, it’s perfect.
Was gonna say electrode or ninetales for base, and rhyhorn or maybe meowth, but I can’t get over arita’s background in dragonair, and the lore-hit with cubone.
