The pokemon economy impacting a country of 124M is entirely different than a country that has a population of 2.5x that. The US can barely get their act together with crime as it is, no one will waste their time with him. Plus, who’s more foolish? The fool, or the fool who follows him?

There are multiple things here, but the most important, I think, is the interests of those in power, not the size of the poulation. Right now, there’s little interest in regulating the hobby market. twice, three, five times now(?) they’ve put off enacting a 600$ requirement for ebay sales reported to IRS. @Paulkemon is right. They’re not doing any regulation of pokemon anytime soon. Now if we hear that Trump tweeted “These bad guys, very bad, are using this shiny cardboard - except for Charizard, everyone knows he’s the best, and did you know they have one of me? Very cool - using it to cheat big, and hurt our great nation…” Then maybe we should expect some legislation. Tried to keep it inoffensive.

It’s funny how grail has become this term used for something that’s totally acquirable. No one has ever found the holy grail… so, should anyone be posting their “I finally got [my grail] card!” posts? Sure it’s cool, but it’s not a grail, if you got it.
IDK if This is what you meant, @wisewailmer , but I like it. I think we’re spoiled today, even with the prices as they are, except for current modern. That stuff is common as campbell’s soup…
It’s often more fulfilling to buy artworks you like than buying a card just because you like the pokemon. If you dan get both, great, but sometimes my favorite cards are pokemon I would never touch in a playthrough just because the art is great

Before things started getting out of hand, I guess I was collecting ‘rarities’ which actually faces the same problem. I don’t like all tag team SARs or SARs/ARs etc.
That’s why I think the best collection method now is the Michi method. Just put in all kinds of art that isn’t necessarily TCG/cards and gives you so much more flexibility, identity, control and uniqueness.
Of course, I don’t have the tools to do it but it’s nice seeing all those binders.
my unpopular opinion is that sometimes it feels nicer to sell a card than to buy a card. as a collector first this feels almost taboo or immoral. I guess I now understand why anybody would choose sales as their profession, if they get a nice high each time they close a deal
edit: to expand on this, sometimes it feels bad to but a card,like you’re giving in to some primal addictive part of your personality but you’re still somewhat aware of how silly it objectively looks to an outsider, so in this context selling a card is both an outside signal that you could in theory eventually leave the whole thing and get some money out, and a temporary financial relief from overspending
In this environment we have here it feels 100x better to sell than to buy. Before this climate, it always felt bad to sell, and in hindsight it feels miserable because of prices. It never felt worth it to sell and I’ve only regretted it. But not currently. Now it feels amazing. I just never thought we’d get here. No one did. It’s insane.
Buying and selling are equally enjoyable to me.
I’ve really detested this harmful view of sellers. Markets require buyers and sellers. It is not morally objectionable to sell cards. I think this sentiment grew from intense disgust toward “scalpers” because their fundamental business practices (e.g., botting, purposefully buying in excess until items are out of stock) make collecting more difficult for the average consumer.
I don’t like unavailable product as much as the next person (and I really dislike people who cause a commotion or break out in fights to obtain product), but this problem is more so an issue with TPC/TPCi matching supply with demand. If supply was sufficient, items wouldn’t be immediately out of stock and store shelves wouldn’t be barren for months.
The tru collector meme or collector purity mentality are frustratingly real, though. People enjoy collecting in ways that might be different to you, and this may involve selling cards. I think most mature people understand this, but Pokemon is unfortunately a young hobby filled with immaturity and misguided anger.
I don’t think I can relate to this. I’ve never felt bad about buying cards, but maybe that is because I spend within my means. I do understand the addictiveness of collecting though, as I think most of us experience this at varying levels.

Landorus-T was the worst thing to happen ever, and its constant use since inception has been a blight upon the game. I’m sick of seeing that stupid thing since 2011 or whenever it came out.
I harbor genuine hate in my heart for Landorus Therian and everything he stands for, and his lack of good moral character.
Also since I’m here screw Gen 5 power creep in general.
