What are your unpopular opinions in pokemon? [Archived]

@krill,

No person has a right to own a single Pokemon card. Whether you entered the hobby a year ago or 5. It’s sad that some people won’t be able to afford certain items, but you could make the same argument at literally any entry point. “I couldn’t afford the $300 1st Ed PSA 9 Charizard” is now “I can’t afford the $30,000 PSA 9 Charizard”

I think some people need to be honest and ask themselves "Am I mad that I cannot own this card, or that I DID NOT buy the card when I should of that’s now worth 100x more. Unless you were someone who spent 100% of their disposable income on cards when you had the chance and they were cheaper… don’t complain about the prices now. I slept on loads of items that I wish I wouldn’t have, but that doesn’t make me any more entitled to own them or to complain.

Unsleeved cards stored in a 3 ring binder are fine.

I wasn’t going to say anything, but in your initial statement you said Logan Paul disregarded the pandemic? I looked into it & I’ve seen 0 proof of Logan Paul disregarding the pandemic, his brother did but not him. The worst thing he’s done was the suicide forest incident in which he was dragged through the mud, hated by majority of Youtube & lost sponsorships. But he’s apologized showing remorse for it numerous times. Since suicide forest he hasn’t really caused any trouble for anyone. So yeah I do think people that still complain about him for something he did 3 years ago are very toxic. People complaining are not adding anything meaningful to the conversation, he’s been harshly criticized for years & it seems like he has listened & trying to better himself. So what’s the point of regurgitating the same “criticism” he’s already heard & trying to improve upon?

I think you should give this a watch, it summarizes all his screw ups & how he’s grown over the years.

@krill , I agree that Logan Paul done some shitty things in the past. The suicide forest situation was disgusting. But since then, he has profusely apologized for it and hasn’t done anything else too objectionable. From doing a bit of research, my overall impression is that he seems like a decent, relatively empathetic guy. Don’t get me wrong: he’s no paragon of virtue. But he doesn’t seem like that toxic of a person to me. He seems like a morally typical person who has made a few stupid mistakes, but nothing that’s unforgivable, IMO.

Here’s one: not every thread needs to mention LP, and his character or who he is as a person means absolutely nothing

And after that it’s a closed set and we won’t hear any more of those words in a set’s name.

There are a lot of underrated Charizards.

Underrated within the context of Charizards? Or underrated within the context of all cards? If you meant the former, then I agree. If you meant the latter, then I disagree.

Yeah, I did mean relative to other Charizards. I thought about explaining why but I saw that becoming a very long post very quickly.

Oh ok. Then I don’t think your opinion is unpopular at all. I’m sure basically everything feels that certain Charizards are underrated relative to other Charizards.

That’s fair. I just see a lot of ‘all Charizards are overrated’. But I guess they are both possible.

  1. Neo series and e-Series is far superior to Base Set when it comes to artwork and aesthetic appeal. Even within Gen I, Team Rocket and Gym Heroes/Challenge blow Base Set out of the water.

  2. Reverse holos are a better card variant than a 1st edition stamp. They actually add personality to a card and look great when assembled into a master set, while 1st edition cards are exactly identical to unlimited cards except for a bit of ink in one corner (the exception here would be 1st edition Base, which is actually substantially different from unlimited Base).

  3. It is good that WOTC lost rights to Pokemon, because otherwise WOTC would have eventually ruined the Pokemon TCG just like they ruined Magic, Duel Masters, Neopets, and every other TCG they worked on.

  4. Fates Collide is a good set. It has a total of five (5) different Alakazam cards to collect, including a beautiful secret rare which features two other great Pokemon (Lugia and Umbreon).

  5. Many Gen I Pokemon are beloved simply because they are Gen I Pokemon, not because they have good designs. If Ditto, Grimer, and Lickitung were Gen V Pokemon instead of Gen I Pokemon, they would probably be hated.

WotC ruined Magic? Tough to say they ‘ruined’ it when it’s still going strong almost 30 years later. They’ve made their fair share of mistakes, but it’s super difficult to keep something relevant and popular for that long and they’ve succeeded in that.
