Use to have 2 binders fulls with a bunch of dups like I’m sure a lot of us had back when we was kids of 1st editions. Wish I would have known better. But I been getting into watching Leonhart with my oldest daughter and she interested in starting to collect is it worth to collect the new Card Packs I would make sure she holds on to them and not be like me lol. We already collect Hotwheels only the actual car models have about 40 in a bin nearly stacked lol. I ordered a binder with plastics and card savers but haven’t pulled the trigger on actual Packs seeing the new ones are scarlet and violet temporal forces. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to e4! The beauty of collecting is there are no rules. E4 is filled with collectors that fancy vintage, modern, waifus, trophy cards, specific eras, specific species, the list is endless. For the past few years I have migrated over into filling binders collecting vintage from 1996 all the way to the modern era.
My advice is to start ripping packs, get the feel of doing that again. Some would say that we are in the golden era right now so you are coming at the best time. I would also research Pokemon you like and their card releases over the years, and might I also suggest diving into the lore of free research the Forums has to offer of lengthy discussions all about this hobby spanning nearly a decade if not more. To answer your question of “is it worth it,” if you mean monetarily, you should probably assume that you won’t be in the black/net positive ripping open modern packs. Even if you get an expensive card, it’s hard to say 10-20 years down the line what it’ll be worth, but you should take into account that there are a lot more cards being produced these days than when we were kids.
That said, collecting is not all about value, and the time spent enjoying the activity with your duaghter may make up for any loss of money 
I don’t open modern packs, but I heard that Temporal Forces has a lower “hit” rate (better than normal holo) than the sets before it (can someone else confirm if they’ve also heard the same?). So if your interest is in opening up packs with “more interesting” cards than normal holos, maybe a slightly older set might be better. But your daughter might be happy with whatever she opens anyway, so that might not be a concern.

Hi! First of all, welcome to Elite Fourum! I’ve learnt a lot about Pokémon TCG in this place and I’ve met wonderful people too!
Having said that, don’t blame yourself for your past cards. I’m aware that in the past, Internet was scarce and not many people saw future in Pokémon TCG. If you remember some of your past cards, you should buy it as single card.
It’s awesome to share the collecting experience with more people. In my opinion, it’s more enjoyable playing matches and collecting cards with a group of people.
About the part you mention if “it’s worth”, if you mean monetary, most probably is that it’ll not be worth to buy a lot of boosters. It’s hard to predict card prices nowadays.
That said, if you only enter to this hobby focusing mostly on the market price of the cards, you’ll probably end leaving. It won’t work … You should enjoy the hobby focusing on other aspects … And also, you should value all moments you can share with your daughter while collecting …
As a collector, something I suggest you to make a research of the cards and determine which cards you like the most … And put them as one of your goals to achieve in the hobby. You should also “take a look to the past” and see which cards would you like to get and try to buy them as single cards. If you only want modern era, ignore the previous advice.
This hobby has a lot of lore and interesting information. At least here on E4 you can find whole threads of useful advices and information regarding collecting.
Yes, “SV Temporal Forces” is one expansion from the Scarlet & Violet series (which is the current series)

Welcome! It’s great that you want to collect with your daughter—my parents were pretty interested/involved with my Pokemon obsession as a kid and it gave me a lot of great memories with them over the years.
There are tons of ways you can choose to collect and stay within whatever budget you’re comfortable with. Some advice:

If you’re going to open packs, make sure the set has cards you want! For example, if you guys want to pull a Charizard, buy Obsidian Flames and 151 products—don’t open Temporal Forces because Charizard isn’t in that set. You can use apps like Pokellector and Dex to easily browse what cards are in which sets.

Pick your favorite Pokemon and make a species binder. Mine is Snorlax so I collect all of his cards in every variant. This is a really affordable option depending on the pokemon, and it’s great for when you guys go to card shops or conventions because you can find cards for your collection even in the bulk bins. Fun hunting.

Pick your favorite Pokemon card artist and collect all of their cards. For example I collect Asako Ito’s crochet art cards. That collection probably cost me less than $20 but it’s been fun for my wife and I to hunt for for months, and they’re still creating new cards!
Depending on your daughter’s age, it’s also a great way to teach kids about finances in a fun way. You set a monthly Pokemon budget amount, and then you both have a “planning session” each month where you decide how to prioritize those dollars—maybe there are specific singles you want to buy that month, or a new set has released and you want packs, or you’re setting aside some percentage of your dollars for a PSA 9 1st Dark Dragonite from Team Rocket. I think this is a great way to show kids that a budget is not a bad thing, it’s a plan for how you want to spend your finite money on what brings you joy.
