Hey all so I just had a message (and email) from eBay informing me they reset my password because they believed fraudulent activity was going on on my account. I’ve sorted it now but I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else here? The reason I ask is because I just won an auction an hour or so before this incident. I am wondering whether this is due to me spending more than I usually do and eBay flagging it up or something more sinister took place in that someone I was bidding against decided to attempt this.
The most likely scenario is that your account was a part of a standard mass breach attempt and your password was not sufficient to withstand whatever cypher they were using.
Happens often. Change your passwords regularly and make sure you use a different one for all websites. You’ll be good to go from there.
eBay has changed my password 4 times this year. Times 3 ans 4 was 3 weeks apart.
Well someone hacked my account and bought 5 iPhones. Luckily I have 2-Factor Authentication on my PayPal and was able to sort it out with the sellers. So be sure to have a secure enough password.
Thanks for the info all. Has never happened to me before and it occurred moments after I purchased a sealed English Southern Islands binder so it had me concerned. Password has been changed to something suitably ridiculous to avoid this again.
This is all very interesting. I’m nearing 20 years on eBay and have never changed or been forced to change my password. My password is relatively simple too. I wonder what triggers all this?
Is your password PASSWORD?
Life finds it amusing to piss me off.
Lol…
Nah, my password isn’t as complicated as that
