I haven’t had the chance to trade as much as I would like, but I agree with what @smpratte said. I’m usually the one on the other end that trades a bunch of smaller things plus cash for larger priced items. I’m actually working on a trade right now but luckily the person is now in the same state as me. As @Dyl mentioned, it does take a high level of trust to do a trade over the internet. I have had some internet trades go wrong but luckily they were small things and nothing high end to cry about.

There is a subreddit where trades happen very frequently. I’ve participated in a few trades and the rules are pretty straightforward.

Trading for me now is few and far between, which is a shame as it was a large part of the excitement back in the day. Recently me and a pal sat down and opened a bunch of 151, which was exciting in itself, but afterwards we went through and traded for specific SIR wants and so almost completed the 165 base set (which was awesome). I’d say trading has not lost its magic of years gone by, but is maybe more relevant to newer sets, as others have pointed out vintage in particular people are fussy about, and with such a large possibility of cards haves/ have nots aligning for a trade is much less likely.
But I would highly recommend getting together and opening /trading new sets, so much fun!

Speculation and original costs are likely influencing things, especially with a lot of 9’s inverting lower than raw prices (depending). I think there’s still opportunities to trade but it’s likely going to be with someone who buys/sells as their job.

I would like to start off by saying that I would never trade online. I’m sorry but I just don’t have that trust.
With that said, trading was more fun 10 years ago in person when it was still somewhat harder to acquire cards online and in a reasonable amount of time. It was also a fun social time at locals but people these days only care about the monetary value so if you don’t have cash or something expensive it isn’t “worth their time”. Times have changed and we need to adjust to that.

I feel that. I just want to add that I have never not made a trade of something at card shows I go to. There’s still opportunity. AND if you build up your trust in someone, then you open yourself up to more opportunities.

How does it work? Most look like typical sales threads not specifically trade threads.
