Oh 9 is probably the number of languages the video games are released in.
The 1st row is for video games, the 2nd row is for cards in the OP.
Some streamer on Whatnot legit thinks that base set unlimited is the most printed set of all time including modern, just because he says that he sees base unlimited boxes still being opened today and will bet his money that base boxes are being ripped daily. Also his sources are from people that run the market…lol
Did he happen to mention the market operators being Filipinos?
The last two years combined: 21.6b ?
1996 to 2015 (March): 21.5b ?
2 posts were split to a new topic: Are Sun&Moon sets still modern?
Isn’t base set unlimited the most printed set?
Doubtful given the numbers we see here. 12b printed in the last 12 months vs 21b printed total from 1996 to 2014.
Is base set print run a data point in this forum @Swoobot

So I think my PSA Pop to total print ratio is off in my head… I’m trying to compare Umbreon Vmax Alt Art to a vintage example. Both with the same amount of printed copies. PSA pop report is a number I was looking at for a data point, but sounds like base set was printed may more than what the PSA pop report would say. At least according to that first thread. 3 B base set cards printed let’s say 1 Billion were USA packs ( meaning holos are possible), that would mean there are 2 million holos for each holo pokemon. However only 60K are graded at PSA. Let’s say all other graded companies gets us to 100K. This means 5% of Charizard holos are graded. If we do the same with Umbreon Vmax we get 400K copies printed with 20K graded. Meaning base set is 5x more printed the evolving skies?
The pop report can’t really be used to estimate anything honestly.
Of the many problems, the first would be accuracy because people are constantly cracking and regrading without removing the original from the pop report.
Second, it would be because grading depends on demand. In an extreme example, common cards are not graded - which does not mean they are rare.
In few instances, mainly Japanese sets, there might be some inference, the VMAX alts in Eevee Heroes all have a lower pop than the Vs. In English this is not the case since the VMAX alts have higher demand/are more expensive.
Then there’s the whole culture or mindset of the modern opener/investor/business. Chase cards being opened by these people get graded instantly. That didn’t exist for 20 years, or basically the whole history up until the pandemic.
Most cards in childhood got destroyed. No sleeves etc. Even modern bulk probably does not have as high attrition as every type of card from WOTC.
Very true
Pop report is useless in this case because 99% of people weren’t storing their cards in sleeves and card savers to send to grading immediately in 1999. Today nearly everybody is.
Extrapolating the percentage graded from base set to evolving skies makes a lot of assumptions that just aren’t true. @pokecollectoramy hits the #1 point that comes to mind. Think of how many charizards are in landfills or forgotten binders. Meanwhile even kids today are sending in Moonbreons for grading.
