Those are just standard sized outer sleeves in my eyes. I believe the perfect fits being referenced are 89mm x 64mm.
KMC’s are one of the most popular ones, in addition to dragon shields.
I haven’t used or bought a binder in many years (though I have over 500 card sets in binders still from before I swore off them) but I can speak to those perfect fit PSA sleeves, They suck big time. Something about that cut flap makes it hard to open and if you do it several times they’re useless. Plus they’re too expensive. Heck, you can always buy well fitted PSA sleeve and cut the flap yourself and save big time.
I have had cards arrive in perfect fit sleeves so tight that I literally had to take scissors and cut the sleeve open to remove the card.
So, yeah. Perfect fit sleeves get a big “no” from me. Lol.
Eh, I was big on them in the beginning of getting back into collecting but now personally I dont feel a need for them. In binders I just have regular deck sleeves which do the job just fine.
If playing with them though and you want to keep the cards completely safe from all the elements, they could work but id recommend BCWs over KMC or Dragonshield. I found theirs to be much looser than normal ones, so they dont have a hard time sliding a card in or out and they doublesleeve fine with bigger sized deck sleeves. (only recommending if you really want to double sleeve. Some do, some dont, i personally dont anymore)
Ultimately, i wouldnt put too much thought into it. Just take proper care of where your storing the cards and you should be good to go.
I have around 200 KMC perfect fit sleeves on brand new energy cards stored inside of team bags at all times (been doing this for about 2 years). Any issues with the sleeves being too tight are remedied by doing this and when I need a sleeve I’ll take one off of an energy to use it for cards in my binder collection, replacing it with a new sleeve and placing the energy card on the bottom of the stack. All my binder holos are double sleeved inside KMC outer sleeves and non holos are just in the perfect fits. Is it an ideal process? Absolutely not. Is it time consuming? Oh hell yea. However, I believe this is the best way to eliminate warping in binder sets.
I also really do not like how Ultra Pro penny sleeves look in binder pages.
Been using perfect fit sleeves inside ultrapro sleeves for the past 7 years and I really like them. I enjoy the added protection and if you are careful when handling then there should not be any issues. I stored a Grand party this way for 2 years and then had it grade a PSA 10. Granted… I have not stored them for more than 10 years so I can not speak to warping, but for now they work just fine. I expect my binder sets with near mint to lightly played cards will be fine regardless.
I’ve never been a fan of perfect fit sleeves, it’s always irritating process to remove bought cards from them. Ultimate Guard standard sleeves and Ultimate Guard Zipfolio binders are way to go.
If you’re going to perfect fit your cards I highly recommend using KMC Perfect Fit. They are expensive (unless you import them) but the quality is really superior to other products (not just in term of fit but also of clarity and materiel quality, feels like Mylar).
I perfect fit every Japanese cards that get put into binder or that I ship. For a Toploader a penny sleeve has proven to be enough as long as you don’t move it too much. For shipping or large moves I double sleeve everything even in Toploaders, as the extra thickness helps to keep the cards in place inside. As for cards damage I feel that if you’re careful when putting the sleeves on it’s a non issue (especially on Japanese cards which are way more resilient to this type of damage). I have a complete Sun and Moon era set in perfect sleeves and have yet to find a card warped.
Now for English cards I wouldn’t do it. The occasional slip up that would not be an issue for Japanese cards will result in a substantial white spot. I also find that perfect fits fit tighter on English cards and that might be an issue in the long run.
Perfect fit has damaged my cards before
KMC perfect fits will not damage your cards unless you go full baboon on them.
That’s a smart idea, I like that. I usually loosen regular sleeves with a random common but maybe I’ll start loosening Perfect Fits also.
Big facts on the penny sleeves in binder pages…gross.
I use perfect fit KMC for all my binder sets and have had plenty of high value cards grade PSA 10 after years of sitting in binders. You can lift the open border edge up and clip it with a scissor.
@rattlebear, LOL yes…
I use a perfect fit, then an ultrapro sleeve, then zipfolio quad row binder for the win. Very satisfying combination.
Would the perfect fit KMC work well with top loaders in a top loader binder? I’m afraid of it being too tight and warping the cards. I know I’m reviving an old thread from 5 years ago but not sure if there have been any new changes to sleeves and top loaders for a top loader binder.
Never perfect fit sleeve your cards. In 2025, friends don’t let friends perfect fit sleeve their cards.
I felt that in my gut
