This dude (who sells a Pokémon investing course by the way) says “if you don’t have at least 100k net worth, don’t open packs”.

I dont use Instagram, but I cannot wait for this to take off.
I realize its ‘hate viewing’ but i cannot help it
I agree. I don’t have Instagram but I can already tell tea on this thread is gonna be piping hot
the spirit of his message is good-natured i.e. don’t gamble, buy the cards you like
I agree. It’s not about the message, it’s about how he delivers it. “Buy the singles you need” is sound advice. “Don’t open packs unless you have $100k or more” is an unnecessarily elitist way of saying it.
So what would be the criteria for “garbage” here?
It was posted on Instagram. Annoyances are welcome but not required.
It’s just a sensationalistic, virality tactic. Thank algorithms that reward extreme language (by dint of humans clicking on things with extreme language).

Just what I need more brain rot…
And yet I’m here…
Blast!
PCG: “We’re totally not altering cards, we’re restoring them! Because doing something scummy but calling it something else makes it ok!”

“In other news, we didn’t reseal packs, we doctored them! We didn’t shill bid, we engaged in Probstein-style bidding!”
Anyone else feel like this Kenlee video comes off as super elitist?
Btw, for those unfamiliar with Kenlee, he’s a chef and restauranteur who started investing in Pokémon cards a few years ago. He has also openly admitted to market manipulation, and is a huge defender of scalpers.
I mean he’s not wrong, the wealthiest people in the world who have enough money to take over countries and establish dynasties have been investors. And there are poor people out there who get given lots of money and then just blow it on stupid stuff. The greatest suspects of this are those Lottery winners that blow through their winnings like crazy instead of building a portfolio and furthering their wealth for the sake of their families and descendants. So yeah, I agree with this guy. Maybe he comes off as kind of a meanie weenie, but there is such a thing as a “poor mindset” and “rich mindset”. It isn’t always luck but it isn’t always hard labor either.
I agree with the statement. The use of a Pokémon card for the statement just gives it a “this hobby is for the rich” undertone. Which tends to be a theme of his Insta page…well, that and blatant, open market manipulation.
I personally don’t get that vibe of hobby elitism from it (probably because I’m kinda used to content like this and I have a different perspective on the hobby), but yeah market manipulation is messed up for sure and that is scummy if he is actually doing that (I’m not really familiar with this specific Instagram user’s history). I think the average normie online knows they definitely don’t need $100k to be able to invest in Pokemon cards and this is moreso catered specifically to noob investorbros, like the type to bid and spend thousands on a fake WOTC 1st Edition Base Booster Box on eBay and not be savvy enough to know it’s fake yet still not care. Or it’s just a concise beginner’s guide for people to use to jump in with and try to figure things out as they go along.
I agree about the fake boxes; it’s a serious problem in the hobby. Unfortunately fakes/resealed product are far too common these days. IMO, Ebay should ban the sale of empty packs, because we all know that they’re almost always used for illicit purposes.

Well, now we know who bought that Bubble Oddish.
How do we feel about this?
