The Shinings? Id have to agree Zard did carry them a long way, however I think that Gyarados is actually the true proponent which made the shinings a desirable thing to begin with. As the first ever given/featured shiny pokemon via gold/silver, introducing that card and being that it was red (and magikarp as gold/yellow too) I could see it as driving a higher desire for more, but destiny kind of took it to a strange level when many pokemon just seemed kinda too silvery with their outlining, at least to me.
Ultimately though id say for me, I would have liked if shinings stopped at Neo rev which would have made them more special in my eyes, but since they didnt i never found them to be something i wanted to collect. Ill always find Destiny iconic in how its the last 1st ed. stamped wotc set, but Neo Gen still holds the torch as what really defined that era for me.
Lugia (my all time favorite pokemon. This card was my chase card and I am so thankful I have it in my possession)
Shining Gyarados (the artwork captures exactly how I envision thep IRL. It also is unique to see a person drawn into the card which works brilliantly by capturing the emotion one would feel if coming across this powerhouse)
Shining Mewtwo (The artwork reminds me of Dragonball Z with Mewtwo looking like he’s about to shoot off some huge ki blast).
What’s interesting is that all 3 of these are flying type and “flying” in the card art.
They remind me of the episode in the anime where a shiny Ho-Oh flies by in the first
few episodes of the Johto seasons. It felt like pokemon was ushering in a new era.
HGSS/Gen 2 was it for me. Playing countless hours on gold.

Awesome choices I can totally agree with, especially Lugia and Shining Gyarados were so big part in gen 2 games it would be shame to leave them out.
