Had a buddy bet me 5 bucks that Hitmonlee evolved into Hitmonchan. He never paid me.
That Mega Charizard X EX was actually a common card. Since EVERYONE (YES LITERALLY EVERYONE) on the bus had it, I was so mad I begged mom to get me more packs.
I never pulled it, and to this day I still have a hole in my heart from not pulling the card myself (I sulked for about 4 weeks)
I remember finding a website during the red & blue era that said there were evolutions for charizard, blastoise and venusaur and spent hours trying to follow their directions on how to get them. They even had sprites and names for the evolved forms, I canāt even remember what any of them looked like but I remember the venusaur evolution was named sapusaur.
Also I remember one of the big video game magazines back then, maybe Electronic Gaming Monthly, had a feature in the cheats section in one of the issues on how to evolve dragonite into Yoshi. Obviously that one never worked either.
You can find Mew without a Gameshark
This is true though
Mew under the truck, evolving into Yoshi in red/blue, the space center for both jirachi and deoxys, being able to move manaphy into emerald instead of D&P
This is really funny to me since my first misty was naked misty. For years, I thought that the english card had not yet been released since I couldnāt read JP and didnāt know what the card name was. I also thought āsabrinaās gazeā was āmasterballā in english because again, I couldnāt read the kanji.
@kromaticlanturn Funny how small experiences can make peopleās views. My dad was a visual artist, and growing up I was surrounded by classical statues, sculptures, art books with naked figures. With all that, I cared more about the card being JP exclusive than that it had a naked-looking girl on it. My parents would have just rolled their eyes.
Iām sure iām not the only one, but growing up in the UK we didnāt get shadowless cards really so we all thought they were fake and would throw them away or get rid of them if we ever came across them. Haha. To this day it is my favourite set to collect largely due to this memory. It makes me cringe thinking of some of the cards we got rid of needlessly.
I definitely heard a lot of these on the playground. One Iām not seeing mentioned is that if you beat the elite four 100 times in FireRed/LeafGreen you would be able to catch Mew in Cerulean Cave. Mew would be where Mewtwo was but would have a Wobbuffet sprite.
I didnāt believe it, but I wanted a Mew so badly that I wanted to believe it was true. Thankfully, my cousin believed it and beat the elite four 100 times. Needless to say there was nothing waiting for him in Cerulean Cave
Itās technically, the only set+printing that Iāve completed. So nostalgic.
