The card that gave you the most run-around or story?

I have a binder full of cards and I just want to spill this story out! I wanted to dig deeper and find the World Championship Decks cards. They are worth pennies but I needed a couple to include in my Eevee collection. I created a post on Facebook but it was a ghost town. I later found the Jimmy Ballard 2006 card in a bulk stack on ebay! After weeks of back and forth, dealing with the USPS missing department, and a seller claiming to not refund until I filled their insurance stuff… it ends up completely lost. A seller on my FB post was waging $23 & took 3 days to confirm he had the wrong signature. My next shot was a far away card shop that burned me before. Claiming to lose a Eevee Stamp card that we agreed to purchase… I think they wanted to get it graded and keep for themselves. So they had a $500 world championship box set that has all 4 decks in an 8 box. Remember I only need one silly card. They gave me a week to decide & I had a vacation to go to the next month. On the last day I declined because I couldn’t justify $520 just to have access to that card & no experience to resell the rest of the decks. The very next morning at 8am, a girl PM me and had the correct one! She asked for $5!? In reality she probably didn’t retain any of it because of the bubble mailer and tracked shipping. This card was a long wavy road but I got the legendary 2006 World Championships Eevee card that was used in the Eevolution deck. I’m not here to complain but I am glad this card was available to me!!! It was a tough catch! My daughter says she loves this Eevee because she looks older like a “mommy Eevee”.

What pokemon took the most fight or Rocky road to find its way to you? :sunglasses:

Mine was two cards from one seller on eBay.

PSA 9 1st edition gym challenge Persian
PSA 9 1st edition gym challenge Ditto.

Won the auction on the two cards that went super cheap, went for like $20AUD each.
He took weeks and weeks to post them, I was very patient since I got them so cheap lol. Kept saying ‘I’ll post it tomorrow’ after all this I got fed up and raised a request for refund on eBay. Turns out he got his house broken into and his cards all stolen, don’t know why he didnt say that to start off with, never got the cards in the end.
I still believe to this day he didn’t want to post them because his auction end for so cheap.

That must be the same guy that I won a super cheap Gold Star Zard off of who then said he canceled my order because he spilled Pepsi on the card.

Any stories were you won the fight? :muscle::dancer::crown::tada:

Ha the classic ol’ Pepsi near a $1000+ card trick, I hate when I spill Pepsi all over my psa graded cards.

Oh man we all dealt with the same person I guess. Bought a 1st edition Lugia off of someone and they left it on their car when they were taking it to the post office and they lost it!

Must have been the same person who sold me a PSA 9 no symbol vileplume and nidoqueen together for 40$Cad but couldn’t ship it because shipping would have been to expensive even though they lived 10 minutes from my house.

Back in 2014 I was finishing collecting a binder set of unlimited Neo Destiny Shinings. I spent weeks looking on ebay for a Shining Steelix that wasn’t overpriced or in poor condition. One random morning I was cruising ebay before work and saw someone from Alaska list one for $15 with multiple pictures showing it to be in NM-Mint condition. I purchased it right away but the card didn’t get delivered until 3 weeks later. Apparently the owner lived in the middle of no where and wouldn’t be able to send the card because the mail plane didn’t arrive until the following week

I’m about to get 2 unlimited Japanese Aquapolis Eevees in the mail set to deliver today! I hope one of them is NM! This was a simple “wait a month” to get here though.lol.

Edit:: came in the mail & now I have UED & 1st

I have one such story, but unfortunately the battle is still going on and I don’t have the card in my possession yet. As you all know, I collect Pikachus. One of the cards I’m still missing is the Italian HG&SS Pikachu with Pokémon Day stamp. At the end of last year, after collecting Pikachus for about three years, one finally popped up on eBay for bidding. I was able to win it for around 20 USD, paid the seller, and it was shipped out within a few days. One week later another one popped up (of course… happens pretty often tbh. You look for a card for a few years, and then two pop up in the same month.) Anyway, since I already had mine incoming I ignored it, even though it was like 12 USD BIN.
Fast forward about five weeks, and my card still hadn’t arrived. I contacted the seller, but no response at all. In the mean time that other card was of course already sold. A week later I send another message to the seller. Again no response. I figured I’d wait one or two days and if I’d still didn’t had any response I would ask my money back through PayPal. Unfortunately I was a bit busy with work at the time, so I forgot, and by the time I remembered the 45 days time to get a refund through PayPal were overdue by a few days, so I couldn’t get my money back…

Fast forward by halve a year later, a new one popped up for about 15 USD BIN. I was happy to find one again, so bought it, and the seller shipped it out that same day. Fast forward about three weeks again, I started to get worried again, so I contacted the seller if they knew the whereabouts of the card. At this time I already checked whether it was the same seller as before, but it was someone else fortunately. This seller also kindly replied to my messages, and asked if I could be patient for one more week. If it then still hadn’t arrived he would refund me. One week later still nothing, so I contacted the seller, and he indeed refunded me as promised.

I really have the feeling this card is cursed for me based on this above… I already made a deal with a friend that iff a new one pops up I’d let him buy it for me, and then he can send it to me… Ironically enough this means more can go wrong since it first has to ship from the seller to him, and then from him to me, but whatever. :slightly_smiling_face: I just hope it will one day actually arrive after I purchased it…

Another example I could give, which did arrive eventually, are Portuguese cards in general. About a year ago I only had like 15% of all Portuguese Pikachus and Sevipers that exist in my possession and it was the hardest language for me to find. Most of the Portuguese Pikachus are produced in Brazil (except for the first few sets, which were also released in Portugal), and since I live in Europe (The Netherlands), those are pretty far away from me, and not as easily accessible through the internet as cards from the US, Australia or Japan.

So in my search for a middleman from Brazil, I was first contacted by someone on Facebook. I’m not sure anymore how he found me, but at first he wanted to help. Later on he said he was busy with some things, and eventually he stopped responding to my messages all-together…

A few months later I was contacted again by someone on Facebook. He had seen my YouTube collection video where I briefly mentioned I was still looking for a middleman from Brazil. And he was able to help me A LOT! In just two weeks time he was able to find 13 of the 19 Pikachus I was missing. And the week after he was able to find 6 more (including one I didn’t even knew existed), so there was only one missing. It was also the first online trade I did, because he collected Pikachus himself (one of each artwork), and he was still missing most of the Jumbo Pikachus. So I bought a few Jumbo Pikachus from eBay that wouldn’t send to Brazil, and after all had arrived, I send him the Jumbos and he send me the Portuguese Pikachus and Sevipers (plus a bit of money he insisted on paying, because the Jumbos were more expensive in total). Here is what I posted about that when the cards had arrived on April 20th, 2017. After that he was also able to help me with any future releases, and he still helps me now every time a new Pikachu/Seviper/Mimikyu is release in Brazil. He also helped at least five members here on the forum from what I know. Truly an excellent middleman that helped me a lot.

Oh wow that’s awesome! I thought about pikachus but I wanted a set i can see a means to finishing. I had a few Eevees and before I knew it, I was funding my collection over constantly losing to overpowered 10 yr olds at the local free battles. LOL

Been on the hunt for a Base Set 2 Charizard for a minute now, bought one and it never showed up, but another and the back was a complete mess (typical 1 picture listing listed as mint) and I had to get a refund, missed a few because I have been busy, missed a few on Instagram that were swept up in no time and outbid by some overly zealous bidders too, I’ll get it eventually, its the last card I need to be 100% done with the original gen.

Enjoyed the story and glad you were able to accomplish your collection. I don’t think im that crazy so I will probably only stick with the Japanese Pikachu Promos and every standard English Pikachu (meaning not the E3 Pikachu/grey stamp/etc…) Seeing that Pikachu has a godly amount of cards lol unless thats 900+ in every language which I definitely won’t do haha. English/Japanese is my only focus. Right now its just completing the Legendary Collection set all in reverse holos (after I hopefully sell my 1st edition fossil booster box)!

I’ve been looking for base set alakazam 4th print that isn’t psa for my alakazam collection for long time. I spend everyday on ebay looking at listing of base set alakazam, zoom in the bottom to check the year and repeat the steps. Then I saw someone on reddit has one, but wouldn’t sell it because I’m not from UK. One year later, this guy messaged me if I still looking for it. I started the alakazam collection beginning of 2017 when I came back to collect yugioh/pokemon.

One time I though it was actually 4th print alakazam on ebay because of pictures. As you all know the seller is superawe**** and it wasn’t even near mint. Got my money back tho.

hmm, i don’t know if i want to say… but recently i had a bad run around story…

has anyone seen that episode of the Simpsons… when bart gets banned from the comic book store? for telling an old lady her stuff is worth waaay more than the store would pay her…

that happened to me recently hahahaha…

funny thing it was some eevee cards… not sure why alot of the posts above are eevee related… dangerous character.
