Submitting English and Japanese Cards together to PSA

Hey all,

I’m going to send some English and Japanese Cards to PSA and was wondering if having them in the same order will affect their grading? I’m thinking the quality of the Japanese cards may affect the grades on the English cards.

Also, in the grading process are graders able to go back and change the grades on a card once they see the quality of the rest of the submission? Say the first card is given a 10 (english) and the grader sees that the quality of cards later in the submission is much better (japanese) can they go back and change their grade?

Thanks

DO NOT SUBMIT TOGETHER!!!

The graders don’t always go in order but you can plan your sub as if they do. They can go back and alter their grades, as can a secondary reviewer if ones around but I wouldn’t worry about that.

A good lesson would be look at my last result in the Great Grading Result Thread. You’ll find 9 out of the first 12 got 9s, which I expected. Then only 7 of the next 53 got 9s…all the rest 10s.
This was all by my design.

These strategy’s I use are simply to get THE GRADES THESE CARDS DESERVE and not to get upgrades that they don’t deserve.

I’ve never had an issue with submitting English and Japanese cards in one submission. I also always put the English cards first and then the Japanese cards second, that way the grader sees the Japanese cards last.

Not sure if a grader can go back and make changes, I’m sure they could in theory. I just don’t think they would or do. Would cause a mess if they did and word got out about their doing.

Submitting them together is not very bright, but if you have to, putting the english first makes sense. There’s even some Japanese releases that should NEVER be submitted with other Japanese cards. That’s a discussion for another day though.
You see, I’m no longer an expert on dissecting tunica albuginea from rat testes, but grading strategy’s I know. Thankfully, 25 years of trial and error, taught me some things that I’m happy to share with my E4 brothers and sisters.

Well that clears it up for me. I definitely won’t be submitting them together. That information is really beneficial for me and probably anyone else reading this. I had no idea that a grader could alter their grades AND that they might not necessarily go in order. I did see your last submission but not in respect to order of the cards. Ill have to think about my order too. Thanks Gary!

Guess I’ve gotten very lucky then, many of my submissions have been submitted with both Japanese and English cards, never mixed though. I do agree that some Japanese releases should be kept separate from other Japanese cards, for example I wouldn’t send off vending series cards with any other cards but themselves.

Probably a stupid question, but would it make any difference to make a separate submissions for old and new back Japanese cards, or have you noticed that it doesn’t matter at all?

Yes, I would submit them separately unless your trying to hit a bulk number or something. It wont always matter, or even most the time, but sometimes it will. So don’t tempt fate:)

Gary, is the lesson here that graders approve fewer 10s be given to each submission regardless of each card’s condition?

Not really, but some cards land on the border and it’s those that can be swayed one way or the other.
