I got that exact same message.
You know, if you just remove best offer option and just put your lowest price that you will go with - you would a lot less of those annoying lowballers… I also really hate people, who put’s best offer option and either never responds or counters with something in lines of “Card is $300, I do best offer him $270, he counters me $297 and says this is lowest I will go” Well damn dude, your $3 discount is so dang generous, will def help me a lot. Why would you even put a best offer option if you’re not planing to take one.
Yes, you’d have fewer “annoying lowballers” but by doing what you say, sellers would lose one of the few tools they have to work with.
So:
- Dealing with “annoying lowballers” may cost the seller mere minutes a month in wasted time.
- Using Best Offers makes sellers a ton of money.
So, throw the baby out with the bath water? I think not.
Lastly, I don’t respond to low ballers cause they’re a waste of time. Why would you increase the waste of time from mere minutes a month?
In my opinion, I think you should remove the part where you say that you think that the card will grade 8 or 9, as describing it as VLP - NM is good enough. Technically speaking, isn’t VLP-NM a grade of PSA 5-7? At 8 it’s considered NM-MINT, and a 9 is considered MINT so I think the buyer asked you the question because of conflicting opinions between your description and PSA grades. The buyer probably wants a “guarantee”, as perhaps the buyer is planning to get the card graded and if it results in a significantly lower grade than what you “estimated”, the buyer may be expecting a refund or something.
Setting numbers of grades aside they still had 5 pictures of the card to check out and my description stating what its flaws were. They could have used those two aspects to fit it into his grading scale. It’s all water under the bridge now anyway haha. They eventually made me a couple low offers I declined. Thanks for the suggestion! If more confusion arises I’ll alter the description

One of the most annoying things has to be when a buyer messages you about a cheap card (talking under $5 here) that does not have a best offer option and asking if you can sell it for cheaper.
I’ve seen an uptick in these messages lately, with someone even going as far to ask if I could sell a $1.99 card for $1.00. Really?
At the very least, most people ask, but I also had one buyer message me about a $4.99 card and say “I can do $3.00.” Well then you can try to go do that elsewhere.

This was the main reason I quit listing items under 50.00,

I see it very often, but I also have had someone ask if they could pay $2 on a $2.50 item of which I have had 50+ listed and they’d take all of them. That becomes very reasonable when between the paypal fee and shipping fees I actually get a higher net per item to my pocket as well as move a lot of product at once. But yeah, worst I’ve seen is people literally asking for $1.75 on a $1.89 item. I always auto block them and don’t reply because people like that are definitely more likely to still buy it and then leave low ratings.
