I was looking for some recommendations about Japanese promo cards and I have discovered this forum and it’s full of interesting information.
Next month I’ll be travelling to Japan and I wanted to take the chance to start collecting Japanese promo cards. Being realistic I’ll try to get some sets/singles that are still easy to find.
So far I’m interested in ANA promo sets and maybe vending machine sets but I don’t know if it’s easy to find them.
Any recommendations? I’m looking for both vintage and modern cards.

You already got some useful tips and articles about the Promos itself so I will try to give you some tips regarding Japan.
Where exactly in Japan are you going and is it your first time there? I assume it is at least your first time card hunting in Japan and that you will probably start in Tokyo or Osaka.
Tokyo is obviously an amazing place for card shopping, especially when it comes to selection. There are some major areas with a lot of stores (Akihabara, Nakano Broadway, Ikebukuro) but you also find them in Shibuya or Shinjuku and as well in the outskirts and not so touristy places of the city. While Tokyo has an amazing selection (regarding both vintage and modern), especially places like Akihabara are also some of the most expensive in all of Japan.
Other big cities like Osaka or especially Nagoya also have an amazing selection but are usually cheaper than Tokyo. However, especially when it comes to vintage cards, you will see that not all stores carry the same inventory and you might see a card only in a certain store in Tokyo (or another city) and nowhere else.
Smaller cities, especially non touristy ones, and more rural areas offer cards way cheaper however their vintage selection is usually very limited or not existent at all. You also won’t find that many rare modern promos in those areas. Usually stores in those areas focus on modern set cards and some readily available modern promos.
Lastly, as much fun as card hunting is, don’t spend all your time in card stores looking for the best deals. Japan has so many amazing different things to offer.
Good luck in finding the cards you are looking for and enjoy your time in Japan.
Not my first time in Japan but first time I’ll have more free time to go card hunting. I’ll go in Osaka, Kurashiki, Nagoya, maybe Kyoto, Kanazawa and Tokyo.
I’ll have a look in less crowded area, thanks for all the tips.
I agree, Japan is beautiful and I’ll just spend some time for card hunting, the rest I’ll explore as much as I can
I made this thread in hopes it would be useful to collectors starting out and trying to wrap their heads around Japanese promos. Perhaps it will be useful to you.
