Should TPC continue making new Pokémon? (Gen 10, 1025+)

The series dies if they stop releasing new mons

New Pokémon are essential. But it doesn’t need to be 100 of them every time. Less would be totally fine.

Yea, design the standard 100 for a new gen, then throw half of them out. Call them beta mons in the next leak

Yes, I want new Pokemon with each generation. I enjoy making connections with new and old Pokemon, whether through the anime, cards, or games.

I have loved regional forms, so more of that would be great for now. But at some point, even that will get old. Keeping things fresh and innovative is crucial.

Agreed, keep the new ones coming!

On that note I want to broach a topic I find slightly hilarious but also… odd. Anyone else find some of these new pokemon are getting a lil um, risque?

I nearly died the first time I saw lopunny and thought that was pair of…

Thank god, no those were just her hands…

Anyone recall that Austin Powers bit?

But seriously, some of the mons are getting a bit into waifu territory. Not saying I hate it, but somewhat concerning.

My only comment is that this “new pokemon” is 18 years old this year. So take that how you will

New PkMn, but fewer of them. Keep the old basics like Pidgey, Sentret, Bidoof, but keep adding starters, stonkers, and legendaries, etc. Maybe 50 new mon instead of 100 or whatever.

My issue is this:
Newer mon are more complex designs and they are starting to lose the “pokemon” feel, and feeling more like other IP, DIgimon, Pals, Megaman, etc.

Were old designs generally “More pokemon”? What IS a pokemon-like design?
We’ve seen other IP lately that closely resembles pokemon, some even obviously jacking PkMn designs, but as we get over 1000 mon, are there not going to be similarities? How many birds? Rodents? Fish?

But as time goes on, the clear difference with other IP blurs. Does it matter?

Yes but less is more.

Creating new starters and legendary Pokemon for each new generation/region is a must but with each passing generation the handful of interesting new Pokemon get lost in the sea of garbage.

I’m all for having a much smaller roster of intriguing new Pokemon & regional variants of the classics to keep things fresh.

Hahahaha

This video answers your question pretty well

i think it’s silly to say no to this question, but suggestions like decreasing the quantity seem reasonable.

i like the regional variant gimmick. it’s a good way to expand along a different axis while reducing the number of completely new species.

there have been pokemon that don’t look like pokemon since the beginning. you have stuff from as basic as seel to as formless as ditto. you have humanoids like mime/jynx, and even objects in a sense with sludge, pokeballs, and magnets.

there will always be hits and misses, and i think every gen has plenty of complete slam dunks (like tatsugiri for example.. idk if a single person dislikes the nagiri mon.)

overall, i think so long as there are new regions, there must be new pokemon, and if they want to just stay in the same regions for the future, the games will lose a lot of what makes each one special.

I agree with new regions require new Pokemon to keep it fresh. When I travel to new places in the world I expect to see different species of flora and fauna. I like that Pokemon does that. When Pokemon species out number actual animal and plant species on earth they should stop. Only about 869900 to go!

channels like these are great for learning the background and cultural context behind newer designs too!

…WWOOoooooowww. haha. nice. Thanks for sharing. :joy: @BANKS @DragonClasher

Personally, I like that they create new pokemon, even tho I rarely like the designs. but…
Basically, as the video strongly suggests, it depends how you define “pokemon-like”. Either it is subjective, or we say that all pokemon are “pokemon-like” by nature as pokemon, and thus, no. gens are no more (or less) pokemon-like.
