Gotta love the uniqueness. This forum would be boring if we all had identical collections haha
Hehehe >__>;
Hello, my name is Adam. I’m going to start before collecting Pokemon, to present day.
Before Pokemon existed I was just a normal kid. I played with the neighborhood kids just about every day and watched toonami at night. Sometimes I could sneak some South Park in at night. My friends weren’t card collectors, if anything they were Nintedo 64 nuts.
Anyways one day Kids WB aired episode one of Pokemon. I was hooked on the show. Seems around episode 10 aired, I go next door to my friends house. Go figure he has a binder full of Pokemon cards. I probably started collecting around episode 20. I was buying packs until Fossil. I was mainly in the game to beat every one, not to have mint cards.
Once again one day I go to my friends house. Now they had new cards and a new collection. This time it was Sayain Saga, Dragon Ball Z cards. I remember sitting on their porch trying to understand why Goku was a super Sayain and Yamcha wasn’t. I collected Pokemon cards for about a month and switched to dbz. Every now and then I would buy a Pokemon pack for the heck of it. Like anyone else says, we thought we were too grown up for Pokemon. I still watched the episodes without telling my friends. Don’t tell them I don’t want them to make fun of me. ![]()
Just as quickly as I loved DBZ it was Mage Knight and Hero Clicks. This lasted maybe a year. This got old quick seeing as the rules were very complex and you’d always have someone take advantage of this. I think it was around the same time I got out of this my neighbors went to Comic-Con. I asked them to bring me back something. When they got back I was surprised they came back with Dragon Ball Z cards. I remember thinking what the heck, I thought this wasn’t cool. They assured me it’s still cool. I’m sure that had an effect on me collecting today.
Here’s how I got back! So this is probably 4 years after high school. I go to my new friends house and I don’t know how we got on the subject but, we get to talking about Pokemon! He had to of planted some kind of seed. Seems like I was completing my collections the next day. Thanks to eBay. Once he found out I was collecting again he brought up the fact he has 3 complete Base first edition sets. I was like anyone else, said he’s full of it. Well next day I saw them and about had an aneurysm, heart attack, and diabetes, all at once. This isn’t the tip of the iceberg. He lived in Japan for a number of years as a kid. His dad bought all his kids Pokemon stuff, crazy cool stuff. I bought my limited edition green version Pokemon gameboy game from him. I figured I’d ask, can your dad still get ahold of the guy that sold him all that Pokemon stuff? In amazement he told me the story of how his dad got ahold of a Pokemon guy who worked with the company. I of course responded, do you still have this guys contact information. Let me just say I **** a brick. My friend showed me some pictures this guy emailed him. I don’t know how to explain this… Any prototype Pokemon, Dbz, and exetera. I mean I saw a picture with houndreds of prototypes, still in possession of the original artist. Like I said not the tip of the iceberg, test cards, limited releases, anything unobtainable, just became obtainable! This was the moment I was back into the nostalgia of Pokemon, if not more so than when it was new. My collection is now becoming a mass of complete sets, prototype toys, and whatever I hope I can get my money back on… one day.
I hope you enjoyed my story and I look forward to reading more about yours!
Sincerely, Ccgcollector
Very nice story!
Glad you shared!
This is SO cool, like wicked cool. Can we see some of your collection?

I already started posting some stuff under the collection thread. Another thread has my other collection of dbz limited edition boxes and prototypes. I’m going to take some close ups next time I’m home. That would give people an idea of what a prototype toy can look like. As for the whole Pokemon collection, I’m going to post pictures slowly. You’ll see the Pokemon prototypes, when I feel like it.
Hey ya thanks for posting. I enjoyed reading your story! I really enjoy this forum and reading everyone’s personal history in Pokemon.
Nothing spectacular in my story, but here we go:
I started watching anime series from tv in 1999 like 99% of kids during that time. Also buyed regularly new booster packs to grow my collection. I think it was right before e-series when I quit that hobby.
Last autumn I found my old binder after ~15 years, took some time to browse it trough. First thing I wanted to do after that was to fill few first sets that were incomplete. That was done in no time at all.
After that I’ve been focusing on wotc booster boxes, english crystal types and japanese gold stars. Almost there you could say, the one thing that’s slowing process is the lack of reasonable priced Neo Destiny/Legendary Collection booster boxes. ![]()
Nice Nauticads! Thanks for sharing your story and welcome. Part of the fun of similar stories is it’s bring us all together as a forum community. Welcome and good luck with your collecting! ![]()
Good story. I know were to find a neo destiny box unlimited $800. I don’t collect this set so I don’t know the usual prices.
