I have plans to meet with someone over the weekend to sell a card. The buyer said he can do Venmo and PayPal F&F when we meet. I asked if he could do cash and he said he’s not able to make it to the bank in time because of work. I’m a little cautious with PayPal as I’m not sure if he can cancel the money he sends once he gets back in his car. Do I have anything to worry about with this? Should I refuse and say cash only?
i think venmo should be good for you. most of the times that is a bank transfer unless he is spending an extra 3% on top of the price by using a credit card
Refuse and say cash only or no deal. The “I can’t go to the bank because of work” is a laughable and pathetic excuse.
Paypal F&F can be refunded by going through your bank and saying it is fraudulent transaction or something like that. Happened to me. Be especially suspicious if people say that F&F cannot be refunded because it is 100% a lie.
Crypto currency is another good option to use like bitcoin, eth, litecoin, monero etc. Cannot be refunded. A wallet like Exodus can allow you to easily accept multiple cryptocurrencies and an exchange like coinbase can convert it to cash if you prefer.
I would only accept cash personally unless it’s someone you know well which in this case you don’t.
Ive actually had a good experience with a buyer paying through venmo in person. Buyer said he didnt have cash on hand but could pay through venmo, cashapp, or pp. In the end buyer gave me an extra $25 because he thought the cards were in better condition than I had listed. And with venmo you see the money in your account right away.
Meet them at the bank or at an ATM
How much is the transaction for? If it’s less than 100 or 200. There’s a low likelihood of anything happening. If it’s a big deal I might be more cautious and do cash only.
quite a few good suggestions, I would also get a receipt signed by them. When I have done ebay deals in person I get a signature(before they introduced the qr thing).
I’d recommend the meeting place be a bank(so buyer can withdraw) and request cash only
True, I think crypto will become a nice way to do transactions especially now that Paypal accepts it as payment, or should be doing so soon, and Venmo is also moving into the crypto fray.
Yeah, if it’s a big purchase that is done in person, that person can certainly go to the bank…
Why use paypal when you can do bank wire?
Thank you all for your input. I decided to tell the buyer that I would do cash only or no deal. He responded back to me that he didn’t feel safe doing this deal in cash for the amount ($850). I even offered to meet at a police station but he still refused.
Shade city
Also must be new to the Pokémon scene, as $850 purchases off FB Marketplace and Craigslist are not uncommon
PP FF is fine
Or you guys can meet @ a bank and watch him get the $$ ??
It is not possible to cancel a payment to an existing Venmo account. Once you send a payment, the funds are available to the recipient right away. If you need the payment returned, please have the recipient send you a payment for the same amount. Upon return, you can transfer those funds from your Venmo account to your bank account. If you accidentally pay your friend twice or made a duplicate payment, have the recipient pay you back for one of the payments.
Venmo Support can only reverse a payment if the recipient gives their explicit permission, their account is in good standing, and they still have the funds available in their Venmo account. Venmo Support cannot reverse a payment at the sender’s request.
If you sent a payment to a phone number or email address that has not been registered with a Venmo account yet, you can take back the payment in the “Incomplete” section of the Venmo app. See this article for more details.
Note: Payments sent via iMessage work a bit differently. Check out this article if you sent your payment via iMessage.
If you believe that you are the victim of a scam, or you have paid the wrong person, please contact us.
I want to cancel a payment I received
There’s no way to cancel a payment you’ve received. Instead, you can pay the other person back. If you have access to a Venmo balance and still have the complete amount in your Venmo account, the payment will be funded by your Venmo balance. If not, the payment will be funded by your preferred payment method.
Not if they decide to do a chargeback. Nothing you can do about it as the seller, even if it’s FF
Sounds to me like you dodged a bullet.
