Relative Rarity of -ex vs WOTC

Just curious what the print runs looked like - I really collected as a young kid from 2004-2008 or so and have heard the print runs were way down. Is there a lot less -ex product out there compared to WOTC? Curious from a collecting perspective if there are likely a lot lower future supply on the -ex stuff compared with older.

Im pretty sure the lowest printed set is considered skyridge. Sets seem to have shorter print runs the closer to skyridge you get, on average with skyridge being particularly rarer because wotcs contract running out. Then the beginning of the ex series are pretty rare, exclusing ruby and sapphire which had a much bigger print run compared to the sets before and after it.

Print runs were the largest during early WotC (Base through Gym) and started to decrease significantly during the late Neo-era. I believe that the general consensus is that the lowest print run sets were those printed between 2003 and 2005 (with a few exceptions, like FRLG). In particular, Skyridge, TMTA, and Deoxys are known for being particularly scarce.

TL;DR Skyridge and the first couple years of the EX Series seem to have been the lowest print run period of Pokemon. Highest print run period (excluding modern, possibly) was early WotC.
