I think there is a difference between “Popular” and “Mainstream”. I believe that World’s cards are very popular that’s why you can’t easily find them, and the price point is higher, people collect them. Are they mainstream? No. As, mentioned here; Set cards are mainstream because they are easily accessible and visible to all levels of Pokémon enthusiasts. Trophy cards like World’s are a different level. Doesn’t mean they are not popular.

Also worth remembering that there will always be a sizable and regular demand for English Worlds promos every year (regardless of art) due to being a Black Star promo.
Might also explain sometimes why the price for the regular competitor and staff copies are so close together for recent years, as numbered promo collectors will keep going for the cheapest one, pushing the prices closer and closer.

Our discussion here has no direct influence over the prices of cards. Why is there a phobia of discussion flaming cards’ prices to rise? Doesn’t make any sense.
If we can’t talk about Pokemon cards, then what do we talk about?
