The Question of the Day is a way to facilitate community discussion to help members ponder the unanswered questions of the world that are somehow relating to the hobby. Questions are many times open ended and up to interpretation. Feel free to post your thoughts in as much or as little detail as you’d like.
Helpful Considerations may or may not help some people focus their answer, these are blurred to not bother those who have their own ideas.
Today’s Question:
**QotD: What is a memorable trade you made? **
Helpful Considerations: What was the trade, and was it a good, bad, or fair trade? Did it lead to a new friendship? Was it unique? This was a suggested question.
My Dark Blastoise for their Piloswine and Rapidash. Yes, I was ripped off lol, but I vividly remember walking home so happy cause getting more cards felt like a huge W for me. I also really liked those two new colorful artworks!
Apart from that, I haven’t done that many trades that are really ‘memorable’. Regardless, here are some trades I remember as a kid:
My English unlimited holo Jungle Snorlax for an English WB Mewtwo promo
My Legendary Collection Reverse Foil Moltres for an (international version) Ancient Mew [I wasn’t sure either card were real when I did the trade at the time, haha ]
My Ancient Mew for a Japanese Gold, Silver, to New World… (Neo Genesis) Steelix
As for more recent trades, they’ve almost all been done with @mdlsoares. Some duplicated Pikachu of mine that he was at the time still missing, for Portuguese Pikachu autographed by Portuguese voice actors. Some examples of those:
Two Portuguese Pikachu autographed by the Portuguese voice actress for Ash and Jessie for the DP era onward: Raquel Rosmaninho:
That reminds me, I think Miguel has one more autographed Pikachu in his possession we’d still have to trade for.
And my most recent trade, which was last month, has been with @Xyelios, whom had a misprinted French Flying Pikachu V (completely missing it’s smooth texture), which I’ve traded for my semi-glossy Unbroken Bonds Spritzee and Litten.
Back in the old days… I traded basically every holo card I had from Fossil and Team Rocket to get a non-holo Dark Raichu. Not knowing that the card didn’t exist in non-holo and was all fake.
When I was in fifth grade I traded five common cards to a kindergarten kid for his Base Set Charizard. I convinced him he was getting a good deal because he was getting 5 cards for one.
I RARELY trade but I could not resist this one years ago. So it was actually with a known scammer on Facebook. I made some sort of deal for a trade with them(if I remember it was some high dollar graded card), fully knowing I would get nothing. I don’t even think I shipped anything. But they actually shipped to my surprise with tracking and everything. So this is my trophy of scamming the scammer.
When I was a wee lad, I wanted to get all the neo destiny shining pokemon. I opened as many packs as I could, but had trouble so I turned to trades. I found a guy with shining kabutops with one in his binder. I opened mine up and kept throwing more and more holo rares into the mix. I think I ended up trading that thing for 12 different cards or something. I was tenacious. He wasn’t all that interested in trading, but I kept sweeting the deal until he couldn’t pass it up. I remember two of the cards were prerelease misty’s seadra and misty’s tentacruel were in the pile I traded to him.
I traded $110 for a 15 oz rare ribeye with french fries, sweet potato fries, bearnaise, stewed mushrooms and two glasses of coke with ice. My mouth is watering as I type this. I haven’t had a good steak outside my own home in over 2 years and it’s been on my mind lately.
im stonkin’ cows right now. Needed to upgrade my storage for them though. Bought a big piece of land out in the sticks. I’m gonna retire from these things.
I attended a trade night at local shop and a boy asked me if I would trade a celebrations Pikachu for this card.
I asked him “what is that?”
He said “it’s Japanese”
At the time my knowledge of anything post gen 2 was extremely limited. I’ve since learned it’s a Gardevoir. I still get a good laugh thinking about that exchange.
