QotD: Should BGS drop subgrading? Should PSA start subgrading?

I like sub grades on bgs and don’t think they should drop them however I also like how PSA doesn’t have them. Each grading company has what makes them unique and changes like adding or removing the sub grades will make you question the value of previously graded cards.

It may partly be just me resisting all the changes but dropping subgrades would kill bgs for me (not that it would matter a lot for a binder collector), i’ve tried to look at some bgs slabs without the subgrades and they all just feel like empty and incomplete. Outside the inner sleeve i truly like bgs slabs the most but i’ve noticed it’s a very fragile opinion since as simple change as missing the subgrades would change the situation completely

No and No. Subgrades and the 10 are almost entirely the reason to even submit to BGS. The 9.5 is the worst grade in the hobby. I’m running 81% on cracking 9.5s to PSA 10’s. People want 10s. Add a Gem Mint 10. Keep BL and Pristine.

PSA should absolutely not do subs. They are dominating the space. Almost an auto 10 on modern. Ride that to the moon.

BGS needs subgrades as it separates them from competitors. It makes them special and gives them a chance to claw back market share.

PSA needs to stay uniform as it’s what collectors want. Simple. Don’t fix what ain’t broke!

On modern?

This would be super impressive if it was for vintage holos.

No. I should clarify that I look them over well and sell a boat load of 9’s that I know won’t cross or have low probability. It’s very heavily skewed to modern.
