Let’s say you have a raw Trophy card that obviously needs to be graded. Where would you send it to be graded? At which grade would you consider switching to the other company?
PSA seems to have a major hold on the market and the majority of Pokémon cards are graded with them currently. In my experience, and I know this is echoed through the community, but anything under a 9 from BGS is debatable by several grades. PSA seems to do a lot better with Pokémon cards.
PSA all the way. Anything trophy that is graded with BGS seems lesser, especially with lower grades (one particular card in mind here) it looks to me as if someone is trying to hide something as BGS’ ineptitude with lower-graded Pokemon is well-documented.
I look at every single card this way, Trophy card or not. If the card is flawless with near perfect centering I am sending it to BGS hoping for a Pristine 10 Gold label. Anything less it goes to PSA. For me the BGS 10 is the chase grade in any card I get, I basically never hit it and thats how it should be (not including modern cards). I did manage just recently to get an english crystal Celebi the Pristine 10 Gold label from BGS and it no question feels exponentially more special than my PSA 10 copy.
But majority will go with PSA and nothing is wrong with that. 90%+ of my collection is PSA and less than 10% is BGS. I do cherish my BGS pristine 10’s the most though.
