Definitely some good points around non pokemon focussed investors. I generalised a little and should have mentioned i was referring to 10s. There will always be a high demand i guess i was referring more to the point that just how expensive can tens get before newer collectors simply refuse to begin that challenge, as woolsluk says hed rather pay 10-20% of the price of a 10 for a 9.

Also i get that kid collectors are getting jobs now etc, but that doesnt necessarily mean all of them have that kind of level of disposable incone and even if they do they may have other priorities than this one particular set.

Going to be very interesting to see how the values of lower grades move in relation to the 10s

Honestly, the increase in price for pokemon 1st edition base right now is rather tame compared to sports cards. Both michael jordan’s fleer RC and wayne gretzky’s o-pee-chee RC, especially in the PSA 8 and above grades have been insane lately.

Whether that is bleeding over into pokemon or not is an interesting thought. How many investors are buying these cards and will the price eventually swing back lower?

Well I think that with psa 10s I think the price will rise over time. This theory is why I’m choosing to start now rather than later, not for resale value but for how much it’s gonna cost me to obtain.

While it’s impossible to say exactly how many people will be chasing a full set, there only has to be more people actively pursuing each card than there are cards on the market to create a price increase. And there are almost none on the market for the lower count cards.

That’s true for now. But if the price of the 10s keeps increasing, I imagine it’ll get to a point where only a handful of people will be able to afford a PSA 10 set, and everyone else will start settling for those 9s lol. Interesting to see how this plays out over time.

i don’t think psa 9s sit so much as people are overpricing them IMO. For the holo cards anyways.

This is kind of what i was referring to. Value will continue increasing for sure, however the lag between 10s and lower cant continue the way it is forever in my opinion.

I agree with Gary, these cards are going to explode any time now. My biggest regret is never buying the rest of the holos im missing when they were 350. I still believe 800 is reasonable tho
