PSA 10 Thick Stamp Base Gyarados

Anyone have thoughts? I haven’t been able to find transaction data on PSA 10’s except for Charizards. I’ve thought about kicking it to PWCC but I just have no idea what it would go for.

It was a storage unit find years ago - graded it myself. It’s probably my most valuable card, but I’ve always been a 9 collector.

Thanks! I’m aware of the thread, and the sale there, but it’s quite dated. Just figured I’d ask around.

I would look at similar valued cards in base set to get an idea. For example, what does the PSA 10 Mewtwo sell for recently or the PSA 10 Raichu or Alakazam. Those tend to be in ball park range of a Gary.

A starter, chansey or magneton would be poor comparisons lol

Hey this is a great tip, thanks!

Collcectablesguru had one at 8k on IG but I messaged him and never replied

imho it’s like $15-25k, more likely towards the $15k end of the range, but I wouldn’t be surprised if you got 20ish for it in current conditions

not for a 10 he didnt did he?

Yeah for a 10

That price seems more in line with the psa 9s which have been going for about $6,500. A psa 10 Raichu sold yesterday for $25K so I would think gyarados would be in the $20-$25K range.

this must have been a long time ago right? (long in current market terms lol… so like… 4+ weeks ago)

Yes, but it’s the only reference I got

The one from August? That is long gone.

One of my buddies that collects is sending in a PSA 10 1st ed base gyarados along with a few other 1st ed base holo 10s I believe. I don’t know whether his is thick or thin stamp though. Just figured I’d let you know as we’ll have a few new data points next month from these sales.

Interesting, thanks for the heads up. I wonder how liquid it is right now / how deep the market is for 10s. They’re obviously popular but the price I’m guessing is making them inaccessible for most collectors.

(Although I have a pretty robust collection, I definitely feel a bit annoyed that it’s harder to collect more.)

Maybe PWCC auctioning may be your best bet, i bet it is more liquid than you would think

I agree that the market is inaccessible to most collectors but that doesn’t really matter because there are enough out there with deep pockets that are looking for these rare cards. It could possibly hurt the value a little bit if there are multiple auctions for the same card ending at the same time but even then I still believe there are enough buyers out there ready to snag one if they deem it underpriced.
