Pokemon Original Art?

Was just wondering why I never see original pokemon card paintings for sale or in people’s collection? I mean there’s been thousands of cards printed so I would figure something like that would go up for sale every once in a while, but maybe it’s a contract thing with the artist/Nintendo? Maybe there’s already a thread on this, if so let me know!

I’m curious about that as well. It’s a very common thing in MTG but I’ve never seen or heard of it in the Pokemon community. I can only imagine what an original of the base charizard would go for at auction.

Idk, do japanese cards stay in Japan because that’s where they were produced? If the motivation was strong enough I’m sure some Japanese artists would sell+ship. But yeah you’re right it’s probably something in their contracts! Also that’s always been my favorite Mewtwo artwork and I had no idea it was done by Chris Rush! I’m not big on signed cards, but a Chris Rush signature on the reverse jumbo LC Mewtwo would be pretty rad.

Original sketches and cels used in the anime come up quite often on YJ, Mandarke, and even Ebay, but as someone who actively searches for such things, I’ve yet to see any TCG art on the market. The closest I’ve seen are Hanken or ‘promotional’ cels and sketches - artworks used for promotional purposes, such as DVDs/CDs/Magazines etc. These have been known to fetch high prices (sometimes 1k+). I’d say an auction for TCG art would go sky high, depending of course on the image/artist.
