Pokemon Hedge Fund Discussion

@kymed, Ironically the shadiest parts of this hobby and most hobbies are the low end. Most scams, razz waffles, mini raffles, are on items $100 or less. Surprisingly when you start getting into adult money, there are more adults.

Ultimately this will never happen in a literal sense. Something like what Gary did is natural. Joint ownership is common for numerous collectibles. Entire groups or holding companies own historic collectibles, and will happen in all hobbies naturally. That is the direction most of this will go in the future, it already has for some pieces.

No I understand I might be overstepping. I plan on getting into the “adult” area of the market. But I don’t think you can overlook the affect it’d have on even the mid range market if this became a thing and not everyone participating in the adult market is an adult.

Many of my peers have been skrewed in the “adult” market and ik plenty of people that have exited back out because of the shadiness in the adult market. I trust that someone like you knows how to navigate. Not everyone is smpratte.

@kymed, Sure, I would only emphasize the low-mid range of the market is rife with the “invest” (quick money) mentality. Low-Mid range is an ease to entry. Ultimately I think with time everything will naturally self regulate. But the low-mid range currently has the most flipper fast money mentality. That can’t creep into the high end because that model won’t work. Basically the high end is the most stable because it’s the most difficult to optimize.

Mainly with bgs pristine 10’s I’ve seen people literally exit the hobby heartbroken over the scams involving black and gold labels. I could totally see folks like myself getting ahead of themeselves with even $6000 cards

But again you know 100% more than I. I just read it thinking it was Joe smoe and it sounds like a bad idea with what I know about markets. It’d def benefit the true “adults”. The trustworthy. But I mean I hope you don’t deny that it’d have an affect on the rest of the market

Please don’t hate me though lol I could be absolutely wrong. I look up to you to. I love your videos. And I’ve never played at that level either. I have friends that do. Mostly magic and pokemon. I myself got back into pokemon because of you but ive witnessed the bad and the ugly of the upper hand market. I myself feel like Id be able to handle it but not everyone, even if they have money, are exempt from being naive.

@kymed, Don’t worry at all man! I made the site to have conversations just like this!

But don’t stress, this was just a thought exercise for cards that will never appear for most.

I love it. I love being involved again. I have really high hopes for being more involved when the opportunity presents itself. And I have you to thank for it. I got back into it looking at the modern cards and feeling weird about being 23 getting back into it and then I found your videos.

@kymed, Glad you enjoy it! It’s a nice hobby! Feel free to send any person who thinks collecting Pokemon cards is weird to my youtube. I am used to dealing with them.

Got ya

I think it is REALLY strange that you guys buy, sell, and collect cartoon cards. I mean you are adults after all…mostly in your 20s and 30s. Isn’t it time to grow up?

If my mental age is 13 can I ever really grow up?

If you spend enough time around Scott and don’t disagree with him on something you might as well be a parrot on his shoulder. Have your own thoughts and opinions, be an individual.

I only mention this because I find it funny that people think that something bad is going to happen for having a different opinion than someone they odolize. Worst case scenerio someone you like doesn’t like you, if you have any backbone you’ll realize you don’t really care and you life will go on. Especially if it’s over a difference in opinion; seriously, why would anyone want to idolize someone who can’t stand other thoughts?

You’re not the first one to tone down your voice because of who you’re talking to, and it’s not always directed towards Scott.

@cullers, You know who never tones down their voices, parrots

See Scott doesn’t know crap, parrots stop talking all the time when experiencing changes to their environment.

*please don’t hate me for talking back, I promise I’ll learn*

lol first off I don’t idolize Scott. Id say i highly respect and look up to the fact that he can take cardboard and make a living out of it and watching his videos fostered back my interest in the hobby. I still think hedge funds in pokemon is ludicrous. Thanks for the pep talk bud.
