"Pokemon Card 151" Set - General Discussion

fairy doesn’t exist in the tcg anymore. the description mentions something about energy representation, but i think its just talking about the coins.

“Each includes two Scarlet & Violet—151 booster packs, one coin sporting one of 10 unique styles featuring the various Energy type symbols in the Pokémon TCG, and one art card matching the tin.”

Oh right, I keep forgetting about that / was thinking in terms of video game types. Maybe the theme is type effectiveness / same types then? The Gengar / Poliwag tin still doesn’t make sense though.

Electabuzz / Magnemites - obvious electric
Machamp / Cubone - obvious fighting
Arcanine / Charmander / Omanyte - fire, weak to water
Kadabra / Hitmonlee - psychic, supereffective against fighting
Magneton / Ekans - metal, resists poison (a bit of a stretch since poison is now dark and no Magneton card has resisted dark, only metal, psychic or grass)
Meowth / Hitmonchan - colorless, weak to fighting
Slowpoke / Sandshrew - water, supereffective against ground
Dragonite / Vileplume / Squirtle - dragon, in games dragonite would resist both grass and water but not in the tcg
Scyther / Weezing - grass, weak to poison (again Scyther cards only are weak to fire or lightning)
Gengar / Poliwag - dark, but random Poliwag?

Really I’m just overanalyzing something that doesn’t ultimately matter, since if it was just mons hanging out in nature like the previous tins I wouldn’t have questioned it.

A heads up for any species collectors (or this Japanese Master Set in general): the reverse holos are available with both regular and Master Pokéballs:

And the Master Ball version seems to be much rarer apparently (roughly one in every booster box from what I’ve heard).

Greetz,

I definitely considered buying just one masterball card of one of my favorite Pokemon just to have a piece of the excitement. I wonder if they will do this with the English release as well as I think it would be pretty awesome!

I’m curious a year from now how much the average Master Ball reverses will be on the open market. Looks like most are selling on eBay right now for $10-$20. With a few of the more popular Pokémon selling for more.

Seems too expensive to include in the master sets, so as more boxes get opened up, prices should go down for the master ball reverse holos

Absolutely. I’ll be interesting to see how far they drop. A lot of boxes going to be opened up.

The FOMO I’m feeling for this set right now is real.

I gave in. Prices dropped to a level I was comfortable at and made several purchases. Will prices continue to drop? Totally. Do I care that much? Not really

What did you end up grabbing?

Gahhh I can’t wait for this set. So many cards I want to play with and this may be first set I try and complete. It’d look great displayed in a binder.

All of the ARs and the Flareon in both Holo/Reverse Holo. Will hold off on the EX SAR’s and Master Ball RH Flareon until prices drop further

Definitely post pics when you get them

I’m going to order a few boxes, but mostly will take a “spray and pray” approach to collecting some now and hope other stuff drops later… Finding a happy medium… ? Ultimately, I have convinced myself, I really don’t care… THAT much.

Is there a badge for dumbass comment of the month/year?

Thankfully UK preorder prices have started to come down a bit post-release. Normally like to wait a little longer after release but couldn’t help putting some orders in this morning

I will probably just stick to the Japanese box. I introduced the lady to her first ETB and we were both pretty disappointed. Japanese will be more fun.

Finally Venasaur gets some needed love! I’ll avoid ripping but I’ll be sure to get the singles.
