Thought it would be fun for members to share some crazy/interesting ways your purchased cards have been packaged and shipped to you.
I purchase regularly from Japan, and they take reusing/recycling old paper/cardboard/plastic for packaging to the next level. More than once I’ve received small handwritten thank you notes, which I really appreciate. Also have received some interesting packaging methods.
To kick off the thread, this Neo Typhlosion was stuck between two plastic folders and then kept in place with four staples. Took me forever to get it out, but turned out to be in great condition
I wish I had taken pictures of some of the stuff I’ve gotten. My last Pokemon purchase was for a 1st Edition Holo Dark Machamp and it came in a sleeve, no top loader, but was then wadded up in a giant ball of bubble wrap. The card was undamaged but my heart sank a little when I realized what I was opening.
I once got a card in a jewel case. It was in a soft sleeve so the corners were fine from banging around but I have no idea how the middle thing you press on to get the CD out didn’t dent it.
I don’t have a picture but due to a shortage in top loaders one of the best packages I received recently was a sleeved Pokémon card inside an old cassette case - it fit perfectly.
I don’t have any pictures, but some I remember receiving:
A card in a CD case, which was actually pretty good protection tbh
In an Magnum ice-cream box
In a shoe box (same seller as the Magnum box, haha)
A single card in a 60 by 40 by 20 cm box… Pretty surprising to open such a big box with loads of packaging material, only to find a single card (which wasn’t even that valuable)
Ah well, all these above are still definitely preferred over receiving a card in a PWE without toploader/cardsaver (and in some cases even without a sleeve), which unfortunately also happens sometimes…
It was not as bad as I first thought, but I got a big shock when I got these cards. So the cards were literally taped together, and the tape was directly on the bottom and top cards.
Fortunately, the seller had just sacrificed some energy cards for top/bottom and my cards were sleeved in between. It was still a nightmare to remove the tape and release those poor cards
This. Recently found some old plastic VHS tape cases (see below) and realized they are pretty sturdy as well, and can withstand a bit of weight without bending, so will try shipping with that. Seeing what happened to @eyesofmadara toploaders is concerning, I wonder what types of machines would result in damage like that?
I never made a photo of it, but I have received cards once just wrapped in toilet paper. 3-Ply toilet paper, just wrapped around it and stuck together with a piece of tape so the card wouldn’t slide out. Just like that in a plain envelope.
I didn’t take a photo of it but i bought a collection years ago and it came in a plastic satchel, loose, just all the cards tipped in like you would tip rubbish into a garbage bag. I was just mind blown lol.
