I don’t have much of an online repuation. Most of you could care less about me. The FA’s and Secrets are what I want to pull. But, I don’t pull as many of them as you think. Weighing is usually around 90% accurate. So 10 packs, around 1 Non-Holo Rare, 6 Holo’s and maybe 3 Ultra’s (Ex’s, FA’s, ect). 10 packs at Retail stores is $40 at Walmart or $45 at any of the other stores. Alot of the time I don’t even pull value(wise) the money that I spent. Sometimes, I pull double the value what I spent. It’s still random. I can’t just buy 5 packs and pull all Ultra’s. If you can do that then I give you mad props.
And you never will have a reputation (well at least a good one) at this rate.
Honestly I could not care less that you don’t pull your moneys worth out of 10 weighed packs. Do have any idea how selfish you’re sounding? Let me run a situation by you.
When I was 15, I bought 1 pack and pulled a holo. I was so excited, I was hooked and back in to the hobby after years of taking a break. Imagine if someone like you had come in to the store before I had and weighed the packs. I’d probably not be here now. That’s exactly what you’re doing. You’re deterring future collectors who pull nothing out of the few packs they might buy for nostalgic purposes. Incredibly selfish people like you are killing the hobby.
Lol I love when pack weighers try to fall back and down play the hobby by saying “it’s just paper and ink” to justify what they do, and act like We’re the ones who are too much into this hobby and overreacting. If it’s just paper… Why are you on this site? Smh.
Ether way, it’s scummy. This is the exact reason why I don’t ever feel comfortable buying loose packs off eBay, this is the reason why I never buy loose packs from my local store, and to make it worse you feel like you’re entitled to do it.
The reasons why no one will “get over it” is because we’ve all, if not most have been wrong by people like you.
At the end of the day your selfish, you only care about yourself. So if you’re cool with ruining this hobby for others then idk what else to say except for its disappointing.
If what you claim about not pulling your money’s worth is true then WHY DO YOU DO IT YOU DOPE? If that truly is the case you would just buy fucking singles. You ruin the hobby for others with your selfish actions and because you aren’t affected by them you simply don’t care…
I sincerely hope this doesn’t count as a personal attack, since it isn’t my intent to attack anyone.
However, I am still wondering why you don’t just purchase a booster box if you want guarenteed ultra rares. There is always 3 per box, I believe, in both english and japanese releases.
Do note, also, blastoise, that this thread is full of people who have been scammed by people who have weighed packs. There are going to be very strong opinions on the opposite side of yours that I think, perhaps, you were not prepared for. You’re well within your right to state your opinion, but likewise, you will be met with a lot of resistance because of most of the users experiences.
Therefore, I merely implore you to please consider purchasing a booster box in future rather than continuing with this road. :c
I could buy singles or a complete set for cheaper that I spend on opening packs from a set. I enjoy pulling Ultra Rare cards myself. As for booster boxes… I mostly only open them in Japanese because they are alot cheaper. Spending $90-$100 to only pull 4-6 Ultra Rares from a booster box (in total) are usually valued around $40 is a waste to me. I really don’t care about common/uncommon/non-holo rare cards to much. I can buy most of them super cheap online. Even most regular holofoil rares are only $1 or under each. To me spending $520-$550 to open a case and pull a single set isn’t worth it. I can go spend $400 total at various stores and match the Ultra Rare pull rates as from a case. Plus usually pull a few more Full-Arts and Shiny’s.
Mate I just don’t think you comprehend what a lot of people are saying. It’s not that you will get the same pull rates from a box than you will weighing, it’s the fact that everyone likes opening ahiny cards and people who weigh packs ruin it for everyone else.
I hope TPCI make an effort to combat pack weighing…
I don’t think #4 is necessarily cheating, since what you decide to do with your own box really only affects you and no one else. As long as the light packs are sold to someone who wants to collect or grade the packs and not resale them as “good” packs, it isn’t much of an issue.
Selling ‘light’ packs and advertising them as such is a lovely way for people to feel less guilty and wash away accountability from themselves. They are still a part of a shady and dark side of the hobby which is covered in dishonesty. If they advertise the packs as light it is meaningless. All it takes is someone to buy them and then sell them on as ‘legit’ packs.
Is this true with Pokemon and WOTC? Are there any examples of them doing anything comparable with pokemon? MTG is their bread and butter, and it definitely makes sense what you mentioned in relation to Magic, but they didn’t prioritize Pokemon and never heard of this situation occurring with Pokemon.
Also, I am not sure if anyone has actually explained this situation to TPCI. At worlds a couple people mentioned the Illustrator re-prints on ebay to the staff, and they were removed within a few hours. It would be absolutely brilliant if they would balance the packs weight so weighing wouldn’t exist.
I remember there being a petition for the quality of the cards to be increased. Many people were in favor of it, but TPCI hasn’t done much to improve print quality. As long as they have people willing to buy their product and they’re getting their money, I don’t think they’ll ever address it much, other than saying they’re aware of the issue. Though, someone mentioned they randomized the order of cards more after it was discovered there was a pattern in the pulls, so maybe if more people complain about weighing… They might do something.
Make a few friends with the people that are specifically looking to collect sealed packs, or find someone who likes grading packs and wants to send in some. That’s the best bet, though you are right in that there’s no way to tell if they’ll hold on to them for a while and then resell. I guess it becomes a bigger issue if you’re someone that constantly weighs packs from boxes, though I do it maybe 2-3 times a year, if that.
I get what you are saying, and the fact that practice in principal is not going to be directly damaging the hobby if it’s extremely localised like that is a lot better than selling weight packs as regular ones. But better doesn’t mean it’s good.
The issue is that there is no way of regulating what happens with the weighed pack after you have sold it. Even if you specifically sell it to someone who wants to grade and keep it, there is nothing you can do if that person decides to sell it on under false pretenses either before or after they get it slabbed. Eventually, after the pack changes hands a few times the knowledge that it was weighed will be completely washed away and that’s not right.
Weighing of the pack is the wrongdoing, all actions after that are quite irrelevant because the bad part has already happened.
The issue is weighing itself, not the second step of what one does afterwards. The second step could also be unethical, but it is a separate point. It is comparable to advertising an item as “stolen goods”. “Well I told them it was stolen, so they know what they are purchasing”. It is obviously wrong in that example, but because weighing is not as severe, it doesn’t weigh (no pun intended) as much on peoples conscious.
While weighing packs is not a crime, it is still unethical regardless of the second step. Sure, people who screw kids in the store are much worse, but that does not negate or justify weighing packs in itself.
