Wanted to share bit of WOTC history.
What you see here are untouched WOTC card bricks filled with several thousand Pokemon promo cards, which were distributed to CCG shops all around the world. They include Arcanines, Eevees, Mews (WP9), Computer Errors, and more. To my surprise, there are also many Dark Arboks and Dark Weezings in GERMAN language with cosmos foil, even though they were distributed to a non-German-speaking country in the EU.
On the bricks, you can still see the original WOTC labels with original signatures from the people who prepared them. They were packed and prepared for shipment on November 21, 2000, after 24 promo cards had already been introduced.
The method of marking and counting also depends on the person who packed them. Some cards are separated by slips for easier counting (50-100 pieces), while others are packed and wrapped in foil. One of the packages even has a remnant of white duct tape with the WOTC logo and writing in several languages.
The most interesting fact is that the cards have survived in the same packaging and, of course, they are still perfectly preserved since they have obviously not been manipulated.
All the best from Slovenia(EU)
What an incredible find and first post!
This is incredibly cool, how did you acquire these?
WOW! I wonder when, if ever, stuff like this stops showing up from the early WOTC days
I also first didn’t believe the seller after I’ve first bought like several hundreds cards off of him.
In the end he had thousands. Bought everything thankfully off.
Will probably never ever come up on such a collection… Here in the EU I mean
I feel like there’s probably a good amount of stuff from late 1999/2000 still out there somewhere still compared to later 2000s when the “Pokemania” started to cool off. I’d say though it’s possible that most of the “gold mines” have been found at this point. Every once in a while though something pops up. 2020 definitely would have accelerated this whole process though I think, since so many more people got back into the hobby due the massive popularity/influencer influx that happened.
Before that, it’s hard to say how much stuff would have stayed tucked away in peoples closets or other storage areas for years to come.
Holy crap, that’s like finding gold bricks
Wow. Some of my friend’s parents worked at WOTC since it’s local to me. I was hoping to see their name on that brick haha!
That’s fantastic, thanks for sharing.
Incredibly special and gorgeous, thank you so much for sharing. I haven’t seen one of these in such a long time.
Wow, these are cool! I believe that similar bricks were unearthed a few years back and graded with CGC.
The cards inside were graded or the whole brick was graded?
The cards inside were graded.
First time I’m seeing something like this. Very cool! Thanks for sharing
I share the same view There still are hidden treasures out there, but definitely not as much as pre 2018/2019.
Haha now that would be something Maybe show it to them, they will maybe know a Robin A(?), Becky H., Mary (?) Killian/Hillman(??)… hard to read
I would do it too, if I had the funds. Know one guy here in Europe, he did it with the prerelease Aero’s Fossil (I got a bigger amount of them too) but there were mainly 8’s although, as said; untouched cards. But the carton touching cardboard and slightly moves or 1x per year touching them, does something to them in the long term obviously
You could build a house of cards seeing as you’ve got the bricks for it. Lovely to see them ty.
