Imagine for a second we are in a future where pokemon TCG is largely NFT based ( I do believe this is a possibility for pokemon )
- No supply/demand issues
- No need for grading.
- Nintendo can make more money - no printing cards, no distributing cards. Direct to consumer.
- Maybe there’s still a market for holding sealed? Depending on if the NFT supports it. But likely no market for sealed.
- All cards have a complete ledger for ownership and buying and selling
- All market data is completely available to everyone
- Cards can be easily bought and sold without a 3rd party service like ebay - blockchain handles all transactions
- No hidden deals, no under the table stuff. Everything public.
- No need for any physical component of the card - TCG can be played online
… That would pretty drastically change the market.
Just saying, there are a LOT of positives there for the con of not having something physically in hand. I love looking at my cards. but I would rather have all of the above at the cost of physically holding them.
