New Reprint of 151 - Price discussion

Will most likely flatten out like how Japanese 151 boxes have. They’ve been at the $90-100ish mark for a few months now.

The English 151 though feels primed for another print run…especially if the demand is this high.

Have you been living under a rock? We are in the midst of the largest reprint yet. Ive seen almost all the sites put up large amounts of booster bundles and GameStop just had the mini tins up

I’m well aware that we’re in the middle of a reprint. Nothing so far has stayed instock at big box for more than an hour.

The mini tins lasted around 20 min. Most casual fans cant catch these restocks…and will continue to complain/secondary pricing will remain high.

Look at any english specialty set thats been released since 2019 and they’ve all been printed for at least 2+ years. Have you been living under a rock?

There is not a single Pokemon set ever where you would have lost money in the long term if you bought at MSRP

I don’t recall pokemon go or champions path being printed for 2+ years. My point is, you’re calling for a reprint during a reprint, which we both agree is happening. Are you saying this reprint needs to continue? I don’t see an end in sight for it. It’s been going on for quite a while. Walmart has had the Zapdos boxes for what feels like weeks off and on online. Target and Barnes have yet to put up their booster bundles. Costco will be getting the mini tins bundle soon. I’m guessing it has been a challenge for the casual fan to find this whenever they want, but with a little effort or just going to eBay it can be found. On eBay most of the prices right now are just MSRP + the eBay fee which for a highly in demand product pretty fair

I’m saying if big box retail (which we know gets the lion share of allocation) keeps selling their allotted 151 SKUs in a matter of 10-20 min…in my opinion TPCI will do another printing. My guess is Q1 of 2025 or close to whenever Team Rocket is released.

Any set in the past few years that has had high demand gets printed accordingly overtime. I do believe that once this 151 wave of products gets wiped out, Pokemon will focus its main attention to Surging Sparks (already heavily demanded), Prismatic Evolution (investor bros hyping it was Evolving Skies 2.0) and then the looming Team Rocket set coming out sometime rumored in 2025.

Battle Styles?

Let me clarify a bit. When I said “MSRP” I should have really said, “the price the box is readily available at while in print” - which is usually close to the same thing but not always. Battle Styles was readily available around $90 after release. Today it’s ~$130 which is +45%.

YTD it performed similar to the S&P 500

I also don’t think 3 years is long term. That’s the low end of time where I would start to expect to see price movement. For example, Evolutions boxes were still $100 in 2020, 4 years after release. In 2021 people were buying them for >$700. It’s only a matter of time before Battle styles blows past the $144 MSRP

This is what’s hard to grasp nowadays, there is so much eagerness to flip in the shortest time possible. It’s easy to not do anything with hoards of 151 - but if this set is going to be printed as much as Evolutions or Hidden Fates, are you willing to wait until say 2028 (when Pokémon supposedly approaches the end of its 10th generation) just to see that growth happen?

100%. What also didn’t help was that the circumstances around Covid completely skewed people’s perception of what it means to “invest”. Especially the generation of people who were making their first investments during that ~2-3 year period. Being able to just throw money into something - anything - and watch it go up and up in a matter of days and weeks was complete dopamine saturation. Then of course global markets corrected, and those people started to see red numbers for the first time, like discovering pain for the first time.

I think we’ll continue to see 151, but with the popularity of this set and the recent spike in total value for the set it’s going to take a massive print run to overcome demand IMO. Because right now you have master set collectors, gen 1 people returning, investors, and people who don’t love S&V (main series sets with hats) buying it. The demand is off the chart and despite this reprint the total value of the set doubled in the past year. Don’t underestimate this set

Not the best deal in the world, but if you’re counting your coins, this is the lowest I’ve been able to find ($44.99 USD)

that isnt sold by walmart themselves

Not sure if that’s the case every time or if Walmart fulfills this from time to time, but back in May I bought two boxes for $29 and it was good.

Can’t find whether it was a vendor or Walmart that fulfilled it

yeah walmart is really odd. when they run out their website just automatically swaps to the next cheapest vendor inventory. Sorta like other ppl selling on amazon. i suspect we wont see another reprint until after the holidays. But if I am wrong id be fine with that

I find that the reviews are positive when they pull a hit, and negative when they don’t get anything and state it’s tampered lol
