I’m gonna be “that” guy and ask why T17 is classed as a grail when the poll is not supposed to be based on pop, and the whole hype over T17 is its notoriety for being hard to grade (just like Neo Rev Blissey and Neo Discovery Yanma).
Not that I’m saying it isn’t an awesome card because it absolutely IS, but in terms of grails I probably would have swapped it out for Neo Discovery Umbreon.
And if we’re going on what was cool and most-wanted back in the day, I remember people wanting the likes of Discovery Houndoom, Discovery Tyranitar, and the three beasts. With Genesis, everybody wanted Lugia.
Hope this doesn’t come across as a bashing post, just my thoughts
I am surprised because to me both lugia and typhlosion really only reach grail status in 10 grades (I know other people dont feel this way which is why I put them in there). They dont have horribly expensive 9s like charizard base and GS rayquaza do.
But I thought the rookie fire starter would be iconic to more people. It is iconic to me at least
Pokemon 2000 stands as one of the best Pokemon franchise movies, even in 2024. The amount of excitement around Lugia (and by extension - Pokemon Silver) in the early 2000s cannot be overstated. Frankly, I’m shocked that the hype for Neo Genesis 1st Ed Lugia has died down so much.
Lugia was absolutely revered by me as a kid, so I’m going to vote for that. That said, the hype of the shining cards can’t be overstated and I feel like Charizard may actually deserve the crown if we aren’t taking into account grade or value. T17 is an amazing card, but unless we are talking exclusively about these cards in PSA 10 I don’t think it’s close to the others (and this is coming from someone who absolutely loves this card).
