Charizard is tough to get at a good price. There’s always a war going on at auction and people end up overpaying, sometimes more than the graded price… You basically have to pray for a cheap BIN you can scoop up before others notice it.
Ray, what kind of condition are you looking for? The cheaper option would probably be to buy a full NM set and replace some of the cards you aren’t happy with. (Don’t buy if the Charizard is not NM+) The shipping cost alone buying everything indivually will cost you $100+.
Hmm, i’m going for near mint quality but a few scuffs around the back is ok. I’m not into heavily damaged cards with loads of whitening and scratches on the image. I preferably would like the same quality as that clefairy image I posted but now i’ve looked up alot of cards, i’m started to realise alot of the holos are really hard to get at a decent price for that quality so I might have to lower my standards.
I think after my recent bad bundle I bought where the back of the cards weren’t good quality, i’d rather buy the cards individually. Plus I don’t have tons of money for this right now so I need to spread out my buys. For me it’s more fun buying individually and I don’t mind spending a bit more overall so I can spread out my buys.
I think ultimately the quality determines how much i’m willing to spend. If it’s a super rare holo like charizard and it’s super mint, i’m wiling to spend up to £100 or more. Depends on the quality and how rare I feel it is, “it’s worth”.
Yeah I know what you mean. I bought a few loose cards before and you’re never really sure what to expect. I bought a Blastoise that is literally Gem Mint, but when I took it out of the top loader a few days later I noticed it had a small indent on the back of the card… I only paid $25 for it so it’s fine.
You would probably do better buying graded cards. Ungraded seem to cost about $10 on average holos and you can get them in PSA 8-9 for $20-30. You pay extra though you don,t run the risk of damage you can’t see on pictures and such.
I actually have all the Base holos and some duplicates so I might be able to help you if you’re looking to buy several cards. I can’t do singles as shipping to the UK would be $20 or so. Let me know.
