Hello guys and welcome to another day. Marshadow is truly a dark horse because victini took the blow this time and the alolan mythic got saved again. Coming to victini it’s really good mythical especially the best one of the unovan set. It’s both signature moves are great and competitively one of the best pokemon. But it’s head being a simple letter and most other mythicals being much more cool designs is one of the drawback for it. Hence the positions are:
Something about Marshadows design just bugs me. Also I hate Sky Shamin, but default is pretty much perfect. So I’m choosing to ignore that form in order to have it fit my narrative.
I cannot vote for Shaymin. I like the little hedgehog form to much to vote him out because his flappy ear form is stupid. Marshadow is okay. I don’t feel anything against or for it. His appearance in that movie was good. It makes… sense…?
Arceus… God of gods is in the same tier as Darkrai, Lord of Shadows. Why gods of time and space are Legendary but the gods of gods isn’t?
Also… just gonna say it. Arceus’s design is STUPID. I don’t know what they wanted to go with. His ‘wings’ are clearly a gimmick to feature a symbol. Where does he put his plates to swap typing? Shouldn’t a god be ominpowerful and not needing plates? Why is it faceless horse? Why is it smaller than all legendary gods?
For one, if there has to be religion in Pokémon, it should be ambiguous or the worship of existing legendaries, not an actual confirmed god of creation (that also happens to be a Pokémon that you can catch). It makes the Pokémon universe feel so small and thinly written.
Otherwise yeah, Arceus’ design sucks. Nothing about the “impaled llama” look says godly, or understated avatar of a god. It should either be something like that ethereal beta design, or small and cutesy as an avatar that can move around without drawing attention from mortals when Arceus appears on Earth.
It´s because everyone somewhere deep down knows that Marshadow has to stay a little (or a lot) longer. Probably a little though, looking at these votes.
Is there any objectivity here or is the forum just stuck on early gen nostalgia?
the 3 mons with the least votes here are Mew, Celebi, and Jirachi and they are literally gen 1 , 2 and 3
if celabi was a gen 7 pokemon for instance, would people just call it a grass fairy and see it eliminated 8 rounds ago?
If marshadow was gen 2 would it win the whole thing?
I think the amount of lore, memorable game inclusion and anime exposure has a lot to do with it besides the nostalgia.
Mew: Origin of all Pokémon and so rare it’s actually considered a myth. Template for Mewtwo. Legendary RBY playground rumours/glitches that existed around it. Faraway Island.
Celebi: Protector of the forests, with its own shrine teasing you in GSC. Can time-travel & meant to be the answer to the GS ball mystery.
Jirachi: Sleeps in a crystal cocoon and can make any wish come true when it wakes up. “Wait for 1000 rocket launches at Mossdeep and it’ll appear” rumour.
Deoxys: Mutated space virus that can change between four different forms. Birth Island. Sometimes has weird beef with Rayquaza. Delta Episode in ORAS.
Darkrai: Causes terrifying nightmares and has canonically killed a child who couldn’t wake up. New Moon Island. Counterpart to roaming legendary. Legends: ZA DLC.
Shaymin: Little hedgehog celebrated with flower tradition. Can transform when given a special flower. Flower Paradise and Prof. Oak involved in the event.
Arceus: Created Dialga, Palkia & Giratina. God of the heavens above, blah blah blah. Hall of Origin & Sinjoh Ruins. Entire Legends: Arceus plotline.
Marshadow: Lives in shadows. Steals the abilities of victims.
……Most of the already axed mythicals are as sparse as Marshadow.
My problem with Deoxys is there are certainly more than one of them so Deoxys feels more like “extraterrestrial species where one or two of them found their way to Earth” so there’s probably a whole colony of them somewhere and because of that they don’t seem that special to me.
All that is left is cool and cute. As I’ve said, pretty happy with this bunch. So far I’ve only just been surprised at how unpopular some have been that I’ve thought were higher tier. But at this point, its what I’d expect minus marshadow who has survived way longer than ever expected.
At this point, I’d like to throw down a top 3
mew
darkrai
celebi
You’d think my top 3 would be the shooting star pokemon beause of my username, but its just too hard to kick out these three! If I could make the rest top 3 I would. I’m a fan of deoxys, always loved the form changing aspect, jirachi is well designed and is diabolical in the videogames in gen 4 where I first started playing competitively. Shaymin is just dang cute, plus it has a fun transformation. Arceus being pokegod has always been a little funny, but he is very imposing, iconic, and rocks. Darkrai is my favorite gen 4 mythical pokemon by far. The epitome of cool, but also a bit spooky. I still dream of a day that he gets a card art with his extendo legs visible. I may have caused one or two rage quits in my day with darkrai putting enemies to sleep with ease. Marshadow is meh to me. Another case of a pokemon that was not given any cool distribution or lore. But at least it has a movie…which I have not seen. Its also OP in the games. And I don’t like that its typing is not in line with its cute little guy design. He should have a transformation like hoopa after using spectral theif or something to become cool. Massive missed opprotunity. If he steals a special stat he could have had a spooky scary ghost form, and if he stole a physical stat, he could have transformed into a buff and imposing monster similar to hoopa unbound. Oh well.
