Many of the Pokemon playtest cards were likely printed in 2024

I can work on this on Monday. Is there a preferred image host or file format for the scans?

Wow. That video is amazing. I was not expected to see this much research in a Pokemon YouTube video. If only this came out earlier. It may have spooked me off from my purchase. :joy:

As long as the dpi is sufficient to see it (600 will work, 300 might on the low end). PNG or tiff is fine. You can upload them to like Google drive to share it

Quite the annoying situation.

I have a couple of questions, and forgive me if they have already been answered elsewhere.

  1. Other than the Charizard, has there been any other Gamma cards shared with unseen artwork?

  2. Has anyone checked these cards (including Beta) against the old stock photo sets that were used at the time?

I don’t have time at the moment. But I remember looking through many of the stock photos back then when they were being discussed. For example, I took note of the stock photo used for the Charizard CD Promo (and Alpha card) can be seen here. I remember coming across it, I’m not sure if that particular stock image was mentioned anywhere else, although rattledkarp mentioned it shared the same photo as Aron.

It would be interesting if any unseen artworks were found to contain any stock photos from the original source sets used by sugimori.

Just checked the pop report on cgc beta playtest venusaur and they graded 7 venusaurs and my 8.5 grade isnt even on the pop report and when i type my cert number into the search bar it says they’ve never graded that number? Any else have this issue? Not under suspicious either.

My last correspondence with CGC was on Wednesday and there was no update or eta available. Thankful that Matt responded to at least relay that. Will continue to follow up on a weekly basis.

Here’s a few scans of easily accessible models from this morning. Let me know if the process works and I’ll keep checking models off the list.

Shoutout Abyssoft, he recommended this particular test pattern and has been corresponding via email.

It doesn’t show up well against the white but you can see it against the blue. This is close to the minimum res that can be worked with but still, it’s good enough.

A CGC employee has also asked if I could forward you their email. I’ll send their email in DM and you can decide whether to follow up with it.

Glad it works! I did scan in 600x600, but can try a different scanner next time. I emailed the address you sent me, I’ll see if I can be of any further help.

Not sure if this would be the correct thread (mods please move to another location if necessary), but since most people who purchased CGC slabbed prototypes are reading this thread:

I was speaking to a journalist about the prototypes, and he mentioned that there is an attorney who is planning on filing a class action lawsuit against CGC regarding the prototypes. He apparently has some specialty in the legal matters around sports memorabilia and trading cards, and he is looking to speak with more people who were negatively impacted by this entire situation:

Paul Lesko: paul@leskolawllc.com

I googled his name, and this appears to be his LinkedIn profile:

Hope this helps,

I apperciate that a well know hobby lawyer is looking into this. Curious tho don’t we still have to wait and see how cgc resolves it before anyone could sue?

If for example you bought a card for 5k and cgc is only willing to give you 1k I get it and why many would want to presue a lawsuit.

But if however they fully honor the sales prices and give people back what they paid im not sure how anyone can still sue them?

It seems many lawyers have become specialists in trading card litigation recently. A small percentage fee on a fraud of this magnitude would bring in a nice paycheck to whoever brings the case and wins. Not directed at anyone in particular.

Akabane is still in Japan and still attending public events, so I assume he’s not too worried at the moment. It appears as the prototype situation is not as important as the other things he has to deal with.

A large number of sold ones aren’t in their list for some reason.
