Just Another Topsun Discussion

Which came first the chicken or the egg?

If topsun preceded carddass, why is there no mew?
Explain.

This topic has been thoroughly discussed in this thread: www.elitefourum.com/t/the-great-topsun-debate-looking-at-the-history-of-pokemon/30306/1

I find these cards interesting. While they are older than the 96 base set cards, I never had a chance to connect with them as a kid. I had some friends who got their hands on JP TCG cards and as a kid it was like touching exotic hotness.

Do any of you collect these? What got you into them? I will admit the Topsun art is amazing, but having never seen them as a kid and also the fact that you can’t play them kinda puts them into the same category as Pokemon movie cards or something imo.

Both sets are amazing! I’m a huge fan of both, but especially the topsun. I will be chasing a PSA 10 trio down the road. They have been on my list since I began actively buying/selling around 09’-12’. Even though the english card doesn’t exist, how could you not like the card that is featured on all base booster boxes??!!!

Super low pop 10 and will always remain that way makes them even more attractive and I actually prefer these over a 1st ed base trio

People get way too caught up in the discussion of which came first and honestly it’s a high roller collector debacle just to incite value in one over the other. They are both ancient and awesome sets. Comes down to whether you prefer iconic artwork - Topsun or unique artwork - Carddass.

Actually topsun was released in 1885

This is a photoshop. In the original photo he’s standing next to a Cardass.
