Japanese Seller sent 1st Ed. instead of Unlimited - What do?

Hi folks. So I’ve been on the hunt/lookout for Unlimited Rage of the Broken Heavens (English Breakpoint) Gyarados cards for nearly 3 years now and counting.

One of them is the Unlimited Gyarados Spirit Link card which I thought would be close to impossible to find since most people focus on the rares.

Then a few months ago I came across this listing: buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/v740426299

As you can see, it shows the Unlimited version. I won the auction at 180 JPY, which is just about $2 USD.

Since I’ve been waiting for a long time with other cards, I decided to bite the bullet and pay for DHL to ship it to me.

But when it arrived, I got this:

All 1st Edition. After calming my initial rage and swearing vengeance upon the gods, I looked to see the seller still had his 1st Edition Listing up. Turns out he does.

This being the case, I think the seller may have accidentally switched the Unlimited listing with the 1st Edition listing.

But I’m at a loss for what to do?

Do I go the painful way of trying to get a refund for the correct product?

Is there a way to contact the seller about this issue if I purchased from Buyee?

Or should I buy the 1st Edition listing and hope they send me the Unlimited version?

TL;DR: Bought Unlimited cards via Buyee. Finally got them and they’re 1st Edition. Seller still has 1st Edition cards listed, which makes me think they accidentally switched them. What’s the best course of action?

How much was shipping? I think even if it’s expensive the buyer should bite the bullet and send the correct cards. I don’t know the ins and outs of the buyee shipping/return policies but if you received the item that you did not pay for you — should receive a refund if not the correct item and at the cost of shipping I doubt they’d want to pay a return. Sucks man I hope you those damn cards!

I’d communicate this to the seller, you never know he/she could be generous and pay for return shipping. Guess there’s a reason why it’s called Unlimited Rage

$2.00? Why not just buy the others? Not much to lose:)

Yeah. I know it’s frustrating but it’s such a small amount of money to spend much time fretting about.

Probably because DHL Express makes out of these 2$ 50

Did you pay for Buyee’s Inspection Plan (included in their Standard Plan)? If so you can ask Buyee for a refund - if you explain the situation to them they may be able to reach out to the seller on your behalf.

That’s without shipping nor middleman fees, which would add another 30+5 USD or so. Although I agree it’s still not much to lose.

@azulryu Still that suck, especially since the pictures show unlimited edition, and they’re not stock images. :slightly_frowning_face: I don’t see it mentioned in the title nor description though. I don’t use Buyee, but with Noppin I can send a message in English to them, and they forward it in Japanese to the seller. You could try to send a message to the seller that way, explaining that what you received wasn’t what you’ve expected and you’d still like to get the unlimited edition cards. It’s best to add pictures to clarify it, since most Japanese sellers don’t really know 1st/unlimited edition differences explained in words from my experience.

@shadowless hit the nail on the head. It’s less about the value of the card and more about the fact that this has been an incredibly hard card to track down. To clarify, this is the ONLY Unlimited Gyarados Spirit Link I’ve seen these last few years and while I know spending $50 USD isn’t a lot for many, it’s still a lot to me, so there’s risk in me purchasing this lot.

@quuador, that sounds like an ideal situation to me. I will try to use Noppin. Thanks, man.

And thanks everyone else for their advice. I think going through the refund route will be more painful than it’s worth in the long run, but if I can bridge communication, it’ll make all the difference.

I actually meant it as an example of what I usually do. You’ve bought the cards through Buyee, right? Doesn’t Buyee have an option to reach out to the seller?

I believe with Buyee you have to message support and they relay to JP Auction seller. I don’t like the waiting and potential distortion of messages. Wondering if I should use Noppin instead of Buyee?

*edit* I think you have to go through support with both platforms. What I wouldn’t give to be able to create a Yahoo JP Auction account time message directly…

Thanks you two. Noppin isn’t allowing new accounts anyway. I had thought I heard a rumor that people cannot contact sellers through Buyee but I just confirmed with the Buyee rep that they can send a message. Wish me luck!
