I’m currently contemplating which collection i should start
Either A: Base set 1st edition non graded
B: Base set unlimited PSA 10
C: Base set shadowless PSA 9, maybe 10
D: Team Rocket 1st edition PSA 10.
I want to collect the base set, but i don’t know which would be the best route. I definitely couldn’t afford to do 1st edition psa 10, i dont even know if i could do shadowless. I just want to pick the best option that would be worth the most. What do you think?
Buy the set/variation you like/want the most. They will all appreciate over time to some extent. There’s some good speculation about PSA 10 unlimited base… PSA 9 shadowless non-theme deck holos are another solid one in my opinion. If you trust your gut you’ll come out on top more often than not. And if not at least end up with what you’re ultimately happy with.
Rocket graded 10s is probably your best value bet now. Rocket boxes are going up & Rocket PSAs have stayed on the low end for awhile. The others are expensive/tough to find. Base Unlimiteds supply alone is tough to recommend unless you’re not worried about the value play.
All good options. I’d go for the psa 9-10 shadowless personally unless you think you can get the first editions in near mint ungraded.
I might be wrong but I personally do not like unlimited and rocket for investments. I don’t think rocket is bad, I just think there’s sets out there with more growth potential and less risk vs rocket set.
Unlimited on the other hand is only good for spot collecting, really just the big three. The rest of the cards haven’t seen any/have had a decline of value over the years. There’s just too many out there for there. I do think eventually that will change, and unlimited will start to gain significant value, but the timing isn’t very investable.
Shadowless and 1st ed base are your best bet to maintain value and increase in value.
