If there isn’t an official market place, but theres an ability to trade or send cards as gifts I will definitely be participating in sketchy paypal transactions.
Ill give pocket a shot, but i will very quickly lose interest if its super p2w
I keep seeing it advertised but i honestly think its not for me. I just dont get it. So its all digital? And your paying for digital cards? Someone mentioned casual battles, so its tcg live? What if they decide the app is a bust, do you lose everything? Im old, going to watch from the sidelines. Who knows maybe in a year ill be posting about how awesome it is but at this point in time its a no thank you.
I’m planning to give it a shot, but mostly because I like the tcg and I’m interested in how the experience will feel. I most certainly don’t plan on paying any money for anything though! I’d much prefer to throw my money away on real cardboard.
Like all free to play apps, they need to give you free stuff or have free gameplay at minimum. For this app it’s 2 free packs per day. I assume that trading and playing the mini battles will also be free up until a cap.
The modus operandi is getting you hooked on a habit and then you will hopefully justify the spend for additional packs etc.
For myself, I will not spend any money in the game, because none of these games guarantee longevity, but I’ll open those 2 packs and see if I get an immersive card.
I don’t even spend any money on actual physical packs, so they can’t get me to spend on digital ones lol. If you’re not buying singles, you are gambling.
Ill watch from the sidelines for now with an open mind.
If people are able to send a card to someone else (and therefore sell them as a digital product on eBay, like Runescape Gold), I can imagine the Item Not Received scams will be absolutely rife
You’d be surprised! I certainly was when I used to sell PTCGO cards on Ebay. I only remember one person filing an unauthorized transaction chargeback (and losing), and this was when online items were not even allowed to be sold on Ebay, so all anybody had to do was file an “item not received” and they’d automatically win.
Watch this end up like the counter strike market place with absolutely insane prices for digital cards. They’d be over the moon as long as they can set it up in a way that they can get a cut out of every transaction.
When I was a kid I was obsessed with owning digital items on RuneScape, Gaia and Neopets. I felt like a king with my blue party hat. But I’m no longer a kid so idk.
Get ready for a nostalgia shot to the heart:
I don’t know I will ‘collect’, but I will definitely play it.
As someone who loves playing the TCG but doesn’t always have the time to go to league, stay up to date with the meta, put in testing practice or travel to bigger tournaments - this looks like a great way to engage with the game in a bite-size format.
And if I happen to get to look at some beautiful exclusive artwork (dat pidgeot ) while I do it, all the better.
That’s fair. Some people will enjoy the quicker matches. I just don’t know why they have to split it from the current tcg game/app instead of just adding to it.
I mean I know why they’re doing it. I just don’t like it.
I had the rarest stuff in it and then Pokémon destroyed it
The chance of this happening is the biggest reason why a lot of us don’t intend on spending a cent on this lol
I’ll play devil’s advocate and say this will be a wildly successful app that many will love for years to come
But really, I hope Pokemon does some really unique things for this app like a way to showcase cards, redeem for actually real cards, and maybe even have the TCG Inside the app.
Pokemon always trying to innovate and adapt. Love it
I would love to see redemptions for real cards come out of this app. But the logistical challenges of delivering to players around the world probably means that it won’t happen.
Just a thought on what you mentioned. Code cards were introduced to prevent pack weighing which in essence was removing the mystery surrounding whether a pack has a Holo inside it.
Hypothetically, if the whole CT scanning becomes a highly optimized operation, it seems fairly hard that TPC can do something to circumvent that. Maybe digital is the way to go in that case. More incentives to try and sway more collectors move towards the digital collecting era, which in turn will also reduce the waste Pokemon produces by a lot.
Maybe these seem far fetched for now, but can become a reality in a few years, which seems very promising for an app like Pokemon Pocket.
Cheers!
I have been thinking about waste for a bit and have wondered if we would ever reach a point where cards get printed to order, which is just buying singles direct from the source.
Or, I’ve always thought that different packs should be available, like a more expensive pack with 4 cards where two are AR, one full art supporter, and 1 SAR. There would still be an element of chance, but it would also take out a lot of bulk. Players could still buy regular packs for deck building, and I’m sure parents and kids would still buy cheaper packs with regular pull rates.
Sorry this whole post is off topic!
If it’s like counter strike skins where you can easily sell items on the steam marketplace for actual money and third party websites begin a separate marketplace from the app it could get interesting, I’m not a big fan of in game micro transactions or loot boxes/cases but there’s a lot of money here potentially, not sure if it was already possible to sell or trade cards on TCG live or prior TCG games before
