I want to invest in WOTC booster boxes

personal opinion, dont buy an unlimited box. Harder to sell, less desirable, many more made and the cards inside will be worth a lot less soon (i get that unlimited cards are selling well now).

You could always just invest in a single rare card for that budget. Something you know you can always sell like a shadowless charizard or gold star charizard.

Hey, I’m gonna try and give some pointers and constructive advice in the hopes that you get something useful out of my reply. I’m not going to suggest which box to buy since I’ve no expertise in the area but I’d point you towards this site: www.zandgemporium.com/ The data isn’t going to be exactly up to date, but it does provide a recent enough baseline for what box/EV is. This information could help you decide what boxes to buy, since one reason boxes are bought is to open them. Ebay sold listings is also key to get the most recent sales data. While some say the best time to buy is now, from an investment perspective it can be difficult to determine which box is the right buy with prices rising the way they are. Therefore, if you want sound, thorough advice, I’d honestly pay for Smpratte’s patreon. If you’re okay investing ~15k in Pokemon, you can afford spending some money and getting personalized advice from someone who’s been in the game for a long time.

People here can be friendly and helpful, but to you they’re friendly internet strangers. They can give nice opinions but without your own legwork you won’t know what is and isn’t good advice/opinions. I’d also try and get in touch with people who are reputable in the industry. Big money means big scams and I’d hate for you to get burned buying a box from a random. Buying from businesses like dacardworld is also a safer avenue than someone you don’t know.

Lastly, a comment on the stuff earlier in this thread. Could people be nicer? Sure, absolutely and people generally are incredibly nice in my experience. But you’re asking for advice on investments and your first post didn’t reflect a ton of research/leg work into the matter. There’s a ton of information already out there but general questions will get you general answers. Don’t take this the wrong way, we all gotta start somewhere man and I understand wanting to ask for people’s advice first. But you’ll find, going forward, the more you put into this forum, the more you get outta it. This is THE forum for Pokemon collectors and if it seems like people take things seriously it’s because they do.

Welcome to the forum and I hope you do stick around for a long time! It’s a marathon, not a sprint

Some of the feedback might sound a bit harsh but @sacari 's message isn’t that bad actually, before people can expect some serious profit from sealed stuff they must have genuine interest for hobby which leads to having great knowledge of past & current prices. This doesn’t happen overnight so today is best day to start.

Sounds like you’ve already made your choice with unlimited Base booster box, certainly a good start. Just make sure you can afford paying other important expenses in real life, holding sealed items for few years is much harder than it sounds. I started 6 years ago and there’s been too many temptations to let them go yet I’ve survived with minimal casualties ( even when year after year people send more inquiries, in most cases without any starting offers ).

Maybe it’s just me but I don’t even trust people enough to ask them what I should spent my money on. I spent my money on things I’m comfortable with. Sure, I’m doing some research, but I rather read through different opinions not directly related to me since I think opinions might be biased when directed to me.

I’d get booster boxes that have artworks you’d like. It makes holding onto it a lot easier.

You asked a collectors forum about what you should invest in. You state you have not followed the market but are asking people on the internet how to spend your 15k. It is foolish to not do any due diligence on any financial investment and therefore my advice would be not to.

Ask stupid questions get stupid answers.

100% this.

Would you go to a stock exchange with no knowledge and say hey guys I have $15,000 dollars to throw at something tell me what I should invest in? If you have no prior knowledge wouldn’t you would pay for professional advice? Scotts Patreon is probably the best option for you if you want investment advice.

As this is a collectors website people here have spent years learning and gaining knowledge and also buying for the love of the hobby. It can be a little frustrating when it seems like someone cannot be bothered to invest their own time to learn about the market and ask to be given all the answers on a plate. Also no one has a crystal ball, the market changes all the time and currently its changing even week on week.

Either way sealed WOTC boxes are a sound investment just make sure you buy from a credible source.

The easy money hasn’t been made. People said that 2 years ago when first edition base set was 30k and they will be saying that a few years from now when all boxes are sitting in the 5 figure range. smpratte made a good video about this awhile back if someone can find it.

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out there is a weird dichotomy on this forum surrounding value and investment on this forum. Tread lightly…

I depends on the outlook for the future do you think it will continue to rise in price. If so what %, then determine if it is worth it to you.

Welcome to the forum @oxmo , as you’ve seen these kinds of threads are not well received here. I’ve locked it as there is literally no reasonable answer to your question and you’ve been thoroughly roasted for it, anything else will be overkill.

If you wish to learn about or discuss the market, check out our Giant Market Thread.
