How would you respond to this buyer's message ?

bit confusing, which part is the message, and whats the context

Seems like the whole thing less the first two questions is the message.

“Thank you for your purchase! As the listing stated this sells international through the GSP so if it needs to be shipped internationally it will be declared to full value and customs will be due to the forwarder upon payment. If however you have a US address that would be great and I could ship it to that directly and you would not owe any customs up front.”

If you want to be a bit more forward with them say:

“Thank you for your purchase. I cannot aid in tax evasion by writing down the customs declaration. If you have a US address to ship to this would no longer be a problem as US-US shipments are not due any duties.”

I would not be sour about it, as I do sympathize with the buyer in regards to the custom fees.

However, it does really suck the buyer did not message you sooner about their situation, but I do get that sometimes they would only message after winning the auction, because:

  1. Sometimes, buyers come across your listing when there is only a few hours left on the clock, making it so that the seller would most likely not respond in time anyways to their situation.
  2. It gets really awkward when you message someone beforehand and then you lose the auction.

I would say do what you’re comfortable with. The safest way is definitely gottaketchumall’s way of responding to the message.

Seems nice, but i follow a hard line policy that if you want me to ship outside of using the GSP, you must message me BEFORE you win the auction. If you message me after I will not change terms of auction which only included GSP.

My approach is simply due in part becauss last time i entertained the consideration before I implemented my hard line policy, I spent probably a couple hours worth of messages negotiating with someone and it was a waste of time. Also ended up not completing since his demands were too risky for me.

100% reasonable. It is honestly up to the seller and whether or not they are comfortable/if it’s worth doing the sale.

Reasonable buyers would know that the sellers are doing a HUGE favor to the buyer for skirting around the GSP, and negotiating with them when they are trying to do you a big favor is disrespectful and foolish.

I personally do think that the two options given are very reasonable, but the buyer should be more humble in the sense that it doesn’t seem like they realize the seller is taking much more risk and doing a solid by helping them out. Of course it also really sucks that they did not message beforehand but sometimes circumstances don’t allow it

What really sucks is that as a buyer, sometimes the GSP fucks up and gives a really poor estimate of the import fee of the product, especially for an auction. For example, my country doesn’t require the item to be taxed if its 25$ or under, making me having to message the seller when the GSP pulls some shenanigans and tries to make me cough up 30$+ in fees and shipping for a card worth 18$ after auction. This happens very rarely though, and I don’t think this applies to the current situation. Just a tidbit from my personal experiences, and I really hate hassling the seller with shipping issues.

If you ship it to an address that is not their registered one you will be SOL if they try to scam you.

I’m so glad I stopped selling international. Avoid all the headaches and usps raising the price constantly. There’s plenty of Domestic buyers and middle mans if someone really wants it.

Yes, something important to mention: there is a difference between the buyer changing the address (i.e. request invoice for address change) vs. sending you a message for you to ship to that ebay address. Don’t do the latter as it won’t be registered! However, it is completely possible to change addresses, as long as its registered. I have multiple registered addresses from different countries.

Sad to see you go maverick75 :slightly_frowning_face: but I do understand your frustrations!

maybe I can mean something for you (if wanted offcourse), I’m from the Netherlands, maybe if I get to know who it is I can tell you whether he is trusted or not within the Dutch community (know most people from the Netherlands)

I recently had to block a Netherlands buyer, not sure if this is the same individual. They had a similar request. Wanted the item shipped to a separate address. Then when the item arrived, it was “ugly”, so they wanted to return the item. I agreed. They then saw I had another in my store and told me why didn’t I tell them, and they are starting to not like me…

Feel free to pm me the username. But as others mentioned, as the seller you are absorbing all the risk doing any of these requests.

Ritesh , wont disclose surname due to privacy or something like that lol.

Hes a buddy of mine, can assure you he is trusted
