Especially when you take into account how expensive raw near-mint 1st Edition WOTC holos are (and they are generally PSA 8 quality at best).

it’s a decision between budget and rarity. If the unlimited is a clean 9 or 10, then that’s great, unless it’s a super common card.
Otherwise, 1st ed! (or shadowless because I’m a glutton for disappointment.)

Man this hits home. I buy psa 8 shadowless and honestly I love them. Looks the same to a 9 except a tiny difference and saves a ton of money

1st Ed WOTC just has that collectibility that no other Pokémon set cards have, it may take 3x the money and 3x the amount of time to complete a goal but much more satisfying in my humble opinion
