High-End Gyarados?

@papafrankgod, You should collect what you like most, if you chose just what is the ‘most valuable’ you might just end up selling it since you weren’t that interested in the actual card. 1st Ed PSA 9 should be easy to find, the NR will be very difficult to find if you are looking for a PSA 9 copy but it would be a good goal to go for!

@papafrankgod, it’ll most definitely be more, I’m mostly just saying we’re seeing price hikes currently in those two versus the older cards. And agreed with @shizzlemetimbers. Don’t worry about what’s rare or what’s worth more unless obviously it’s something you want to make a goal of. If you’re really dead set on collecting in PSA 9/10 cards, then yeah, I can understand why going for the bigger wants are important. If you make a habit of collecting raw, however, who knows, you may just stumble on a card you can grade yourself. Many of my cards are probably PSA 8-10 worthy, but that’s not the focus of my collection. And who knows! Maybe you’ll get a solid PSA 9 that could regrade as a 10! It definitely would be more affordable.

Thanks for the response. I guess grading myself is an option, even tho I live in a distant country it can be made. I do collect raw cards, most of my collection and even in my future display case will be raw cards. But as there are some trophy Magikarps to get I wanted 1 gyarados that could stand for itself against them. I’m not a fan of paying the grade, that’s why maybe PSA 10 won’t be an option, but will see what the future gets.

I guess maybe a PSA 9 Thick stamp as they were the first released and a raw no rarity gyarados to display, I do have a raw one already but its bended in half, still cost me 8 usd (best deal maybe ever)

Completely understandable. In the past, I’ve even considered doing a BGS Black Label collection of a few of my favorite cards. If you haven’t considered a 3rd option yet, have you thought of perhaps doing screw down display cases? Currently I have my original 5 in UV Protected Acrylic slabs:

That collection looks amazing! And indeed, yes, I will display them in cases. I thought that the magnetic case would be a good option since it’s not bigger than a PSA or BGS case and it won’t stand out more than them. Still missing some pieces to make the display but I’m on it !
